Dear Parents

Thursday concerts
I would like to start with a big thank you to peripatetic music teacher Martyn Bennett, for preparing such an enjoyable lunchtime concert on Tuesday.  His drummers did him proud, with a range of pieces and percussive styles. This was followed by a delightful Music Assembly in the Prep School on Thursday morning, including four more of his percussionists – a very busy week.

Gala Christmas Concerts
We now look forward to the Gala Concerts starting tonight at 4.45 pm with Years 4-5 (and associated guest performers) and then next week 4.45 pm on Friday 1 December (Years 6-8).  Thank you to the peripatetics and Sue Watkiss, the Director of Music in advance.

Pre-Prep Music
We are also looking forward to a Year 2 Concert next Thursday (30 November) at 2.30 pm in the Recital Room. This is an opportunity for Mrs Bolter, our Head of Pre-Prep Music, to showcase some of the instrumental talents that the Year 2 pupils have been developing.  Mrs Dando will be marshalling her violinists and Mr Palmer will be directing his cellists – while Mrs Bolter conducts her very own clarinettists. This is not in the Programme of Events but parents have been written to separately.

Wednesday Sport
Well done again to all the sports teams who represented the school this week. It was a very busy afternoon, with lots of pupils both at home and around the county - apologies for the disruption to car parking in all areas of the school as we experienced an unexpectedly large turn-out of visiting supporters. There were lots of close and exciting matches on the day, with special mention to the U13A rugby players who continued on their winning way with a 10-0 victory against Sherborne Prep.

U12 Girls at Ipswich
The U12 girls’ hockey team arrived in Ipswich yesterday, ready for the finals of the IAPS National Hockey competition.  They are battling hard as I write, and I will be able to give you a full breakdown of events in next week’s letter.  A big ‘thank you’ must go to the parents currently supporting the girls pitchside - I hope they are reading this, albeit two hundred miles away!

TEDx and Twickenham…
After Leo B 's radio interviews last week, we have had other Dumptonians speaking with confidence in public places.  Tom H and Charlie J (both Yr7) were interviewed on the big screen in front of tens of thousands of spectators at Twickenham on Saturday, where they gave a confident pre-match analysis and prediction of the final score.  I am also delighted to give you the link to Noah D's TEDx talk discussed in a previous letter. This is an amazing achievement for a 10 year-old, where he talks about following ideas through to fruition. Very impressive – very well done.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTgfOdvWaMQ&sns=em

FoDS Christmas Party – last call
Just a few places left at the FoDS Christmas Party at Harbour Heights, on Saturday 2 December from 7 pm.  Please put cheques in the FoDS box by Monday 27 November if you would like to join the fun.

End of Term Arrangements
Mr Nye will write to you separately next week, outlining arrangements for the last day of term including the seating plan for the Carol Service.  There are still three weeks to go, but it is good to plan ahead!

Year 7 and Year 8 Examinations
Teachers in the Prep School are currently in the middle of marking examinations and writing reports. We hope to send examination results home on Friday 1 December.  Queries about these or any other academic matters should go straight to the Director of Studies, Mrs Sharp (c.sharp@dumpton.com) in the meantime.

Best wishes

Andrew Browning
