Dear Parents

E-Safety
After the excellent presentation from Gooseberry Planet last week please use this link to the Gooseberry Planet website http://gooseberryplanet.com/parents/ - there will be more to follow when the pupils start using the resources fully themselves.  In addition, the talks from the Police Safer Schools Team have been followed up in computing lessons this week.

World Book Day – Thursday 2 March
As you will have seen from the Programme of Events, it is World Book Day on Thursday 2 March. As usual, various book-related activities and competitions will be taking place on World Book Day and throughout that week in English lessons (see Miss Anson’s separate letter).  Much to the delight of the children, to further celebrate World Book Day, we are asking Years 1 to 8 to come to school that day dressed as their favourite character from a book.

Visiting Author – Lauren St John
We are very excited about Lauren St John’s visit on Friday 3 March. Lauren will speak to the Prep School during a special assembly and will then hold workshops across the day. Lauren has written several award-winning series for children, and it would be lovely if as many pupils as possible were able to read from her books before the day. Her books are available in the school library and we are also holding a book sale in the library at lunchtime on Monday 20 February.

IAPS Swimmers
We took an impressive squad to the IAPS Swimming Heats at Clayesmore on Tuesday, with 34 pupils competing in a series of relays and individual events. There were first places for the Yr6 girls and Yr7 boys Medley Relay, and the Yr6 Girls and Yr7 Boys Freestyle relay teams.  Well done also to Amelia C (50m Backstroke), Anthony L (50m Breaststroke), Grace C (50m Breaststroke), William S (50m Breaststroke), Henry S (50m Breaststroke), Robbie H (25m Fly) and Georgina H (25m Freestyle) who won their individual races.  We now have a nervous wait to see how many of the swimmers qualify (on their swim times) for the Nationals at the K2 Centre, Crawley on Saturday 6 May.  Thank you all for representing Dumpton.

PEDSSA Perfection
Meanwhile, the Year 7 girls performed very well at the U12 PEDSSA tournament on Wednesday, winning all eight of their matches, beating Parkstone Grammar in the final. They have now qualified for the County Championships at Bournemouth School for Girls on Saturday 4 March.

Other Sporting News
Well done to the 1st VII hockey boys who battled hard at the Regional IAPS Tournament at Bryanston, with wins over Twyford and Perrott Hill and also to the U9 girls who reached the final of their netball tournament at BCPS.

Summer Club
Mme Tulodziecki would like to give all parents advanced warning of her plans for the Summer Club this year.  It proved extremely popular last summer, with numbers growing as the weeks progressed.  It was full for many of the days, suggesting that advanced booking would be advisable.  The dates will once again include the first two weeks of the summer holiday (Monday 10 July – Friday 14 July and Monday 17 July - Friday 21 July).  The sessions will be open to pupils from Year 1 through to Year 8, and will be an exciting mixture of cooking, bushcraft skills, tie-dye, mountain-biking, tennis, pétanque, swimming, programmable toys and more.  Mme Tulodziecki will post a form in the Parents’ Area of the website at half-term with more information and booking procedures.

Message from the Chair of FoDS
The Circus is coming to Dumpton - Save the Date for the Big Top Ball - Saturday 10 June.  Tickets will go on sale at the beginning of March.  Please see the attached poster.

And finally …
It is full steam ahead for Mr Moulton’s latest show ‘The Ghost Train’ which is being performed at the Tivoli next week (from Thursday 16 February through to Saturday 18 February). Tickets are still available if you are free…

With best wishes for the half-term break.
