Dear Parents

Scholarship Successes …
……have continued with three Academic Scholarships to Canford for Rosie I, Annabel K and Molly T.  This brings the total number of awards this year to 20 – very well done to all involved.

Messa di Gloria
A Senior Choir represented Dumpton at the Bryanston School Concert last Friday night at The Lighthouse, Poole, singing alongside the Bryanston Choral Society in Puccini’s ‘Messa di Gloria’. It was a very memorable evening for all, and I would like to thank all pupils and parents for their support.  We currently have around 20 pupils rehearsing for the ABRSM examinations which take place next Monday and Tuesday – given the level of performance at recent assemblies and concerts they seem to be well on course … well done and good luck!

House Music Festival
Congratulations to Dorset who won a spirited House Singing Festival yesterday.  James Aiken, Assistant Director of Music at Canford School, kindly came over to offer impartial adjudication. When the scores were totted up, Dorset’s ‘Radio GaGa’ just pipped ‘Our House’, ‘Rocking all over the World’ and ‘500 miles’ from the other houses.  A big thank you to all the pupils and staff for entering into the spirit so positively.

African Drumming
Year 2 have enjoyed today with special guest Noah.  Each year he brings a huge array of African instruments and artefacts, transporting the children into a different world and helping them to experience a new culture.  We have taken lots of photographs of the children and these are available to view on the Parents’ Area of the website (in our Photo Gallery).

America’s Cup
On Tuesday we were very pleased to be invited to the Tech Deck Education Centre in Portsmouth associated with   developing the boat to be used in the America’s Cup by Ben Ainslie et al.  The Year 7 group had their eyes opened to the possibilities of careers in design and engineering, with an interesting workshop on ‘Cutting Edge Materials’.  We are grateful to Dumpton parent Matthew Noyce for helping us to arrange the visit.

Bryanston Science
A group of Year 7 pupils had a delightful afternoon on Tuesday in the Bryanston Science Department listening to an array of presentations from staff and sixth formers featuring many different scientific ideas, from waves to methods of predicting the stock market.  The pupils then received commendations and prizes for their Science essays, entered into the recent Bryanston Competition.

Wednesday Sports
The last Wednesday block of term had the usual array of 20+ fixtures, this week featuring Port Regis and Salisbury Cathedral School.  The pupils finished the term in style, with many exciting wins and few narrow defeats.  Particularly well done to the U11 boys who travelled to the Canford Hockey Tournament, losing narrowly in the semi-final to the eventual winners – a special mention also to the U10B side who won through to the final of the Ballard Tournament last Friday, beating our U10A side in the semi-final on penalty shuffles!

Willy Wonka Workshop
A late addition to the Programme of Events: I will be taking all Year 4 pupils to Hampreston next Tuesday for a ‘Chocolate Making Workshop’ between 1 – 3 pm.  This is being hosted kindly by Hampreston First, our local partner state school.  Check the school bags for the fruits of your children’s labours next week, if they make it that far…

Easter Egg Hunt and Egg Decorating Competition
Just a quick reminder that the Easter Egg Hunt will be starting from 10.15 am for Nursery children and parents next Friday.  Please come to the front of the main house from 10.00 am.  The rest of the Pre-Prep will be joining in at various stages, and we are hoping for a sunny spring day to finish our term!  You will also have received information regarding the Reception, Year 1 and 2 Easter Egg decorating competition – the eggs will be on display in the Front Hall on the last day of term.

Summer Ball – from the FoDS Committee
Tickets for the Big Top Ball on Saturday 10 June are already on sale.  Booking forms were sent home last week in book bags and also by e-mail.  Please return your booking form to the FoDS box or by e-mail to fods@dumpton.com.  We look forward to seeing many of you on the night!

And finally …
Effort and Attainment Grades in the Prep School will be sent out on Monday.

Yours sincerely
Andrew Browning
