Dear Parents

Welcome back to the Summer Term.  I hope you have all had a sun-filled break and that your children are rested and ready for a very busy term.

Tennis in the Algarve
Well done to all the pupils and staff involved in the very successful Tennis trip to the Algarve over Easter.  In amongst all the tennis and fun in the sun, two of our pupils, Angus W and William B offered to shoot an improved promotional video for the resort. This was all agreed, and then duly posted on the Facebook page of the company – quite an achievement for 13 year olds!

Music Results
Many congratulations to the Dumpton musicians who produced a very impressive set of Associated Board results last term.  All pupils passed with something to spare, and particular congratulations should go to Ollie E, who achieved Grade 6 distinction in his violin examination.  Well done to all the musicians and peripatetic teachers involved.

Dumpton Parliament
With all this talk of elections in the air, MP’s from each form in the Prep School met at lunchtime today for the Dumpton Parliament.  There was the usual array of good ideas, from the inspired to the less practical, and these will be shared with the school at Monday Assembly.  This will then lead on to the …

FoDS Dragons’ Den
Pupils can then develop, cost and present their ideas to a small committee of ‘Dragons’ (FoDS and Headmaster), who will support the initiatives with funds raised from the Parents’ Quiz Night earlier in the year.  Last year, this led to the purchase of a range of tools for the allotments, along with a vertical (and rotating) planter for the Pre-Prep.  Many thanks to Dumpton parent Catherine Oliver (Yr1) for helping to drive the process.

Senior School Scholarships Meeting For Parents
There will be a meeting aimed at Year 7 parents at 7.30 pm on Tuesday 2 May in the Recital Room to discuss scholarship applications to senior schools next year.  However, parents from other year groups are also welcome if they would like to plan further ahead.  Please contact the office if you would like to attend (secretary@dumpton.com).

FoDs Summer Ball
Plans for the FoDS Big Top Ball later this term are all in place and the committee reports that many tickets have now been sold.  There are places still available so please do e-mail FoDS fods@dumpton.com if you would like to reserve anything from a single place to a table of ten.  Booking forms are still available at the Front Desk.

Sunhats for All
Please could I ask you to ensure that children have their own school baseball caps or sunhats for games sessions and break times in the summer months.  They should also use sunscreen before coming to school in the morning, if appropriate, and keep spare sunscreen in their games bags.  Could I also ask you please to check that the sunscreen does not contain any type of nut oil (coconut is not counted as a nut).  Thank you.

Prep and Pre-Prep Hobbies
For those in Years 3 to 8 a hobbies sheet is now available on the Parents’ Area of the school website.  Hobbies will start again next Thursday afternoon (27 April) and will include outdoor ventures such as Allotments, Tennis, Volleyball, Golf, Ultimate Frisbee, Photography, Swimming and a few indoor activities too.  Please do encourage your children to sign up as soon as possible.  Hobbies in the Pre-Prep will also recommence on Thursday lunchtime with the usual menu of activities.

Dumpton Ski Team
Good luck to the eight skiers representing Dumpton in the ISA School Ski Racing Indoor Championships at Hemel Hempstead next Monday (24 April).  The event includes over 175 skiers from 35 schools, skiing a special slalom course to score points for their team in their respective age categories, U10, U12 and U14.

Next week ….
The summer sports fixtures start in earnest with 17 cricket and rounders matches next week.  The Year 3 visit to the Museum of Jurassic Marine Life at Kimmeridge is on Tuesday and a UK Maths Challenge for Years 7-8 on Thursday.  Thirty two members of Year 6 and five staff set sail to Normandy early on the Friday. Some members of Year 7 will also be filming at Tyneham on Friday afternoon. Just a reminder that there will be no school on the Bank Holiday Monday (1 May).

With best wishes
Andrew Browning
