Dear Parents

Dumpton on location
There are some exciting plans ahead in the film world.  Up until now, Year 7 and Year 8 pupils have been shooting the film ‘Under’ on site, using ‘green screen’ and our own video editing facilities.  They are now heading off on location on Friday afternoons this term to film at the abandoned village of Tyneham, near Lulworth, with special permission from the Ministry of Defence.  Those who recall the story line of Miss Anson’s play will recognise the significance of this location to the production. More will be revealed at the premiere later in the term ….

Dumpton Ski Team
Our two teams of four had a great day at Hemel Hempstead for the ISA British Indoor School Ski Championships earlier in the week.  Niamh T finished second in the U14 girls and George W fifth in the U14 boys. The senior team of Niamh, George, Tom W and Howard G were awarded 2nd place overall in the Mixed Team competition.  Congratulations also to the junior team of Ralph and Jon A, and Max and William M who showed great promise at their first event.

The next Inter School ski race is at Southampton on Sunday 14th May. We can enter teams of up to 12 children in both the Primary (Yrs3-6) and Secondary (Yrs7-8) age groups, but need a few more pupils from Yr7 or Yr8 to bolster the senior team. Children need to be able to use a drag lift and ski in a controlled way through slalom poles. They can borrow skis, boots and helmets from the ski centre, and we could arrange for them to have a practice before the day.  If you are interested please contact n.williams@dumpton.com or parent nicole.thompson@dorsetsoftware.com

Senior School Scholarships
Thank you to all those who have expressed an interest in the Senior Schools Scholarship Meeting next Tuesday (2 May).  Drinks will be served in the Recital Room, prior to the meeting from 7.30pm.  Do please feel free to add your name to the list via Lerryn (01202 883818 or secretary@dumpton.com) – all are welcome.

Headmaster’s Breakfast x 2
Building on the success of the Headmaster’s Breakfast before Christmas, we will be hosting two more this term.  The first, at 8.30 am on Tuesday 9 May will be for the Nursery, Reception, Yr1, Yr2 and Yr3.  This will be followed by a meeting at 8.30 am on Tuesday 16 May for the Prep School years (Yr3 – Yr8).  Parent Reps for each year group should be approaching parents for their ideas shortly, and I look forward to the forthcoming discussions.  We hope this will remain a useful conduit for information both to and from the school.

From the Chair of FoDS
A reminder that the last date to purchase tickets for the Big Top Summer Ball taking place on Saturday 10 June is Friday 19 May.  Please find drinks pre-order form attached.  In addition, there is advertising space still available in the Ball Programme (preferential rates for Dumpton parents).  Please e-mail fods@dumpton.com for more information – your support is greatly appreciated.

Four seasons in one day
Having experienced sun, cloud, rain and hail while supporting the cricket and rounders on Wednesday afternoon, I was delighted that we managed to complete all 18 fixtures on the cricket and rounders fields this week.  Well done to all the teams who battled very well in some close games.  There were encouraging wins for the 1st XI cricket team against Chafyn Grove and the 1st IX rounders team against Forres Sandle Manor.

Year 6 visit France
A large group of Year 6 pupils left very early this morning in good time for their early sailing, accompanied by Madame Tulodziecki, Mr Price, Mr Moulton, Matron Stokes and Miss Hawley.  They have an exciting itinerary ahead, including visits to the Bayeux tapestry, the World War 2 site at La Pointe du Hoc and a French market to buy lunch.  They will also enjoy a guided walk across the bay from the famous Mont St Michel.

Summer Club
Madame Tulodziecki’s Summer Club (week 1: Mon 10 July – Fri 14 July and Week 2: Mon 17 July – Fri 21 July) is filling up nicely.  This was a great success last summer, with many sessions oversubscribed, particularly in the first week. The combination of pizza making, bushcraft, mountain-biking, T-shirt design and swimming, amongst other things, seemed to capture the imagination of the children and we look forward to more of the same this year.  Do please click on the link in the Parents’ Area if you would like to book.

Looking ahead
Pupils from Year 4C are set to camp overnight here at Dumpton on Friday (5 May) under the watchful eye of Mrs Welch, Mr Davis, and Miss Hawley (assuming it warms up a little)! Before that we will have a Fossil Collector in Reception on Tuesday (2 May), a Year 2 Orienteering Day on Thursday (4 May) along with an exciting Year 4 Activity Day at Sandbanks.  We then have the Climbing Wall in school for Years 4 and 5 on Friday (5 May) and Year 7 will lead the Dumpton Debating Society at lunchtime on the same day.  A busy week!

With best wishes for the Bank Holiday weekend.
