Dear Parents

‘Under’
A big thank you to everyone involved in the production of the feature film ‘Under’ this term.  This was based on a play performed at Dumpton a few years ago, written by Miss Anson, with an original score and songs composed by Mr Nye.  Filmed throughout the year, this was a huge undertaking, and included the use of green-screen technology and filming on location at the deserted village of Tyneham.  A pupil-led production team, including Angus Wand Will B, filmed and edited each scene, to produce an hour and a half of great entertainment, enjoyed at the world premieres on Monday and Tuesday evenings.  Congratulations to all of the staff and Year 7 and 8 pupils involved.

The Incredible Adventures of Superstan
Meanwhile the Year 6 pupils were enjoying their romp through ‘The Incredible Adventures of Superstan’ last Friday evening, a play full of music and fun.  There were some very memorable moments, so once again thank you to Miss Anson, Mr Nye and all the pupils involved in the project.  It has been a busy week in the Drama Department!

Pre-Prep and IAPS National Athletics
Well done to all the Year 1 and 2 children for competing with such good spirit at the Sports Day today.  Thank you to all the parents for their support.  Good luck now to the record number of Dumpton athletes heading for Birmingham early next Tuesday morning. Fingers crossed for them all.

Fencing and Tae Kwon Do
Well done to Elliott EH (Yr5), who came an impressive 2nd in the Southern Region (six counties) foil fencing competition, winning seven of his eight bouts.  Congratulations also to Natasha P who travelled to Poland last week for the European Tae Kwon Do Championships, returning with two silver medals and one gold.

EYFS Summer Concert
Thank you also to all the children in Nursery and Reception who put on a lovely show for us on Tuesday morning.  Very well done to Mrs Bowerman for marshalling the troops once again – her last concert in an illustrious twenty year music career at Dumpton!

House Swimming
All pupils in the Prep School will be taking part in the House Swimming Gala on Wednesday afternoon. Just a reminder that kit bags can go home on Tuesday evening but that pupils will all need their swimming costumes and towels for one more day. Unfortunately, with 200+ children and 20+ staff in the swimming enclosure, there will not be room for spectators on Wednesday.

Dance Extravaganza on Thursday 6 July
This will take place outside by the marquee from 4 pm and will involve most of the pupils in the Pre-Prep and Prep School.  All parents are welcome of course.  Claire Camble-Hutchins would like to make a plea for all boys to wear their black t-shirts and the girls their leotards for the last few rehearsals – and most importantly for the final show!

FoDS End of Year Picnic on Thursday 6 July
This will start as soon as the dancing has finished and continue until 8.00 pm. Please bring your own picnic and drinks. However, there will be hot food to buy from Dorset Larder.  There will also be disco music in the marquee, glitter tattoos, face painting, balloon modelling and laser quest.  Can we stress again that children should be accompanied by their parents at this event, as it is very much a family affair.

Speech Day on Friday 7 July
I hope to see you all on Speech Day, which starts promptly at 10 am on Friday 7 July.  Here I will take the chance to thank some highly-valued members of staff who will be leaving this term, including Mrs Prosser, Mrs Bowerman, Mr Davis and Mrs Prockter, along with the team of loyal Student Teaching Assistants. Following the proceedings FoDS will be offering Pimms and juice.    I will certainly aim to say farewell and good luck to each leaver.  If I do miss you on this busiest of days, can I take this opportunity to pass on my best wishes for a long, hot summer wherever you are, and I look forward to seeing you back here in September with your children suitably rested.

New Form Lists
The new form lists will be published in the Prep School next week.  Later in the week pupils will go to their new Form Teacher to spend an hour or so in next year’s form room.  We hope this will make the first day back at school next term less uncertain and allow any essential communication between parents and Form Teacher before the start of term. Teachers will then pick up e-mails addressed to them (eg j.smith@dumpton.com) when they return in September.

Second-Hand Uniform
On Wednesday 5 July from 3.00 pm – 5.00 pm  there will be the Big Summer Sale.  If you have any bags of second hand uniform please give them in as soon as possible, so that we can include them in the sale. The shop will be closed for sorting on Tuesday.

And finally …
We start again in earnest at 8.30 am on Wednesday 6 September.  As usual, please do park up as directed on the first day and head for your son or daughter’s new form/classroom to meet their Form or Class Teacher.

With best wishes for an enjoyable summer.

Yours sincerely
