15 September 2017

Dear Parents

I hope both you and your children have all settled into the new term, particularly if you are new to the school.  I will try to catch you all at the gate over the coming weeks to allow you to feedback as necessary.

Future Schools
Although my ‘Future Schools Presentation’ at 7.30 pm on Thursday 28 September is some way off, it would be useful to receive an update of parental intentions. Thus, I would be very grateful if you would let me know if there has been any change of plan or if you now have clearer views on the likely school of choice for your children.  Please be reassured that anything you write will not be binding.  However, this is particularly important for those in Years 6, 7 and 8 as we set out to tailor preparations for each individual.

Grammar Schools
Preparation lessons for the Bournemouth and Poole Grammar Schools continue this term in prep time.  As I am sure you are already aware the deadlines for applications for the forthcoming September tests are now upon us.  Additional information is available on each individual school’s website. The deadline for subsequent applications to local state senior schools (Sept 2018 entry) is 31 October 2017.  I should stress once again that these applications are the responsibility of the parents not the school.

Sports Results
The sporting term got off to a flying start with well over 200 competitors onsite, along with a huge number of spectators.  We hosted an U10 hockey festival for 16 teams of girls, and competed in a further 20 or so fixtures against a range of other schools, home and away. Well done to the 1st VII girls’ hockey team on their third place at the King’s Bruton Tournament, and congratulations to the 1st XI boys’ football team on their early season wins against Castle Court (4-0) and Port Regis (3-1).  A big thank you, also, to all the parents for their support, and to both Mr Randle Snr, Mr Randle Jnr and Steph for managing the logistics.  Wednesdays will be as busy as ever in the coming weeks, so to help you plan ahead we will aim to put team sheets on the website by Monday evening at the latest.  However, please check the website on match days for any last minute changes.

Jeans for Genes
There will be a voluntary Jeans for Genes Mufti Day next Friday (22 September) with a £1 donation, as usual.  This will extend to children throughout the Prep School, Pre-Prep and Nursery. Thank you, in advance, for your support.

FoDs Quiz Night
Next week we will be sending out an official Quiz Night flyer containing full details of this school wide fun event, but in the meantime please do remember to save the date – Saturday 14 October.

EYFS Curriculum Meeting – 7.00 pm Wednesday 20 September
We are looking forward to welcoming many of you to this popular evening next week.  The Early Years team will be on hand to outline aspects of the EYFS curriculum, including numeracy, literacy, phonics, Forest School and learning support.  Do please raise any further questions with Miss Monaghan, Mrs Morton and Mrs Goodwin as the weeks proceed.

Individual and Sibling Photographs
Fraser Portraits will be in school to take photographs of each child on Thursday 21 September.  They will also take sibling photographs. If you would prefer not to have a sibling photograph taken, please just let us know j.jeremiah@dumpton.com.

Minibus Service
With the ever increasing popularity of the minibus service, the school is now considering operating a Year 3 minibus service from 4.15 pm on Thursday afternoons to Penn Hill and Glenferness Avenue. To gauge interest, can I ask that you email the Bursar to let him know of your interest and the children’s names likely to be using the service (bursar@dumpton.com). If enough parents apply for seats the new service is likely to start on Thursday, 28 September 2017.

Swimming Squads
This year we are looking to run the Early Bird Swimming Squad on Thursdays (for Years 6-8) and the Junior Swimming Squad (for Years 3-5) on Friday lunchtimes but first would like to gauge interest.  Both sessions will require significant stamina!  Please will you contact Head of PE, Chris Jeremiah if you would like your child to be involved and we will do our best to accommodate everyone!  c.jeremiah@dumpton.com

Lost Property
Matron has a large amount of unnamed lost property left over from last year, particularly towels and trainers.  Please do pop by if you think you may be missing any items.

Autumn Stroll
We hope that the Friends of Dumpton Stroll will see the return of some proper summer weather this weekend. The FoDs Committee are expecting a fairly large group of walkers (and dogs)! Thank you in advance for all of the preparations that have gone into this.  We look forward to seeing many of you in the Parents’ Car Park at 2.30 pm on Sunday 17 September– the weather looks hopeful, so the more the merrier….

With best wishes
Andrew Browning

PS A plea from several parents this morning – please could you avoid parking in the Drop Off Zone in the mornings to keep traffic moving.  Thank you.
