20 April 2018

Dear Parents

Welcome back to the Summer Term.  I hope you have all found some sun and that your children are rested and ready for a very busy term.

Environmental Youth Award
Building on the success of our third Eco Schools Green Flag, we were delighted to hear that Dumpton has been awarded the Environmental Youth Award for Dorset 2018.  As one of the local county award winners, we are now assessed against five other county winners before the South West Award winners are announced at the Royal Bath and West Show on Friday 1 June.

Dig for Dumpton
The adjudicating committee will be with us this Monday (23 April) morning, so the pupils are busily digging and planting in the allotments this week.  Some children have asked if they might come in over the weekend to finish their patch – I will be present on Saturday 10 – 12 noon if you would like to support this.

Tennis in the Algarve and Hockey at Millfield
Well done to all the pupils and staff involved in the very successful Tennis trip to the Algarve over Easter. Good luck now to the U13 boys who attend the South-West In2 Hockey Tournament at Millfield next Tuesday (24 April).

Music Results
Many congratulations to the Dumpton musicians who produced a very impressive set of Associated Board results last term.  All pupils passed with something to spare, and particular congratulations should go to Charlotte K, who achieved full marks on her Grade 5 Theory! Well done to all the musicians and peripatetic teachers involved.

Dumpton Parliament
MP’s from each form in the Prep School met at lunchtime this week for the Dumpton Parliament.  There was the usual array of good ideas, from the inspired to the less practical, and these will be shared with the school at Monday’s Assembly.

Senior School Scholarships Meeting For Parents
There will be a meeting aimed at Year 7 parents at 7.30 pm on Tuesday 8 May in the Recital Room to discuss scholarship applications to senior schools next year.  However, parents from other year groups are also welcome if they would like to plan further ahead.  Please contact the office if you would like to attend (secretary@dumpton.com).

Sunhats for All
Given all this unseasonly hot weather, please could I ask you to ensure that children have their own school baseball caps or sunhats for games sessions and break times in the summer months.  They should also use sunscreen before coming to school in the morning, if appropriate, and keep spare sunscreen in their games bags.  Could I also ask you please to check that the sunscreen does not contain any type of nut oil (coconut is not counted as a nut).  Thank you.

Sports Hall
Just a reminder that as the work on the new Sports Hall is well underway there is no parking in the Dumpton lay-by and no access to school through the back gate.  Can we ask parents to use the main school car park only for drop off.

Next week
We look forward to welcoming children’s author Ross Montgomery into school on Tuesday 24 April.  He was booked for National Book Week before Easter, but could not get through the snow… this should not be a problem next week! He will be holding workshops with Rec - Yr 5 and will be available to sign his books at a book sale and signing in the library at lunchtime. If your child would like to buy a signed book, please could they remember to bring their money in and visit the library at lunchtime from 1.30 pm.

With best wishes
