Dear Parents
Merry Christmas to you all and best wishes for the holiday period. It has been another very long, eventful and busy term, and Jo and I would like to thank you all for your support over the past fourteen weeks. Jo has written a Christmas card to every Dumpton family – I hope they have all arrived safely!
Carol Service
Perhaps a little prematurely, this is the last chance this term I will have to thank Mrs Watkiss and the other staff involved for the countless hours they have spent preparing for the Carol Service. We are all looking forward to reaching the end of term in style, and if the rehearsals are anything to go by we will not be disappointed. With 225 pupils and staff singing in various choirs, it should be a real celebration of Dumpton choral music.
Puss in Boots
Congratulations to Year 3 for their performances this week. After leading school assemblies on Monday and Tuesday, they then performed their Christmas Play ‘Puss in Boots’ to a full house and rave reviews. They impressed us all with their assured acting and confident solos. Well done also to Mrs Williams and Mr Cox (and Mrs Watkiss) for their direction (and piano) and to Miss Barman and Miss Lawton for their support backstage.
Pre-Prep Christmas
It has been a busy week in Pre-Prep. Year 2 had an enjoyable trip to the pantomime in Poole and Year 1 a lovely Victorian Day on Tuesday. Reception also visited Streets Meadow Care Home to sing to the residents. Reception and Nursery very much enjoyed the visit of their Christmas entertainer, Jigsaw, this morning.
Merry Christmas from the Food Tech Department
I hope the Nursery Parents enjoy their Christmas Cake and the Year 2 parents their Christmas Granola, complete with sparkles, all lovingly made by their children (with a little guidance from Mrs Brown) earlier in the week. There were also beautifully decorated Christmas cakes from Year 7 wending their way home, along with some Christmas Gingerbread from Year 8.
We are sorry to announce that Chris Allen, our highly respected Database and Network Manager, will be leaving Dumpton at Christmas to continue his career at Poole Borough Council. He has spent the last 11 years making sure we are online and fully connected at all times - and we will miss his calm, self-assured approach, whatever the problem! He leaves with our thanks and best wishes.
End of Term Reports
We are sending out the Autumn Term reports for Years 1 to 8 shortly. Nursery and Reception parents will not be receiving reports as they have been invited to EYFS Meetings with their teachers instead over the past few weeks.
Year 8 Examinations
At risk of dampening the pupils’ Christmas spirit, Year 8 mock scholarship exams will be taking place in the third week of next term (Monday 21 – Wednesday 23 January) and the Year 8 mock Common Entrance exams will be sat after half term (Monday 25 – Wednesday 27 February).
Message From FoDS – Please Save the Date!
Looking ahead to next summer, The Summer Gala will be held at Deans Court, Wimborne on Saturday 15 June 2019. Tickets will go on sale in January!
Happy New Year
Finally, for those who have next year’s diary to hand, the Spring Term starts on Monday 7 January 2019. To stagger the demands on the car park on the first day back we would be very happy if the Pre-Prep parents dropped off their children a little later at 8.45 am. Of course, those with siblings in the Prep School will be welcomed at the usual time. Just trying to think ahead - Happy New Year!
Best wishes
Andrew Browning
