Dear Parents

Easter Egg Hunt
A big thank you to all the FoDS and Nursery parents who supported our Easter Egg Hunt today. We were so grateful to all the FoDS Committee, led by Licia Accorsi, Rachel Wolfenden, Sue Watkins and Jessica Mcardle who were excellent hosts for the day. It was good to see the smiling faces of all the children as they searched for the eggs in the adventure playground. We then retired to the Dining Hall for hot cross buns and coffee. They continued their good work with Year 1 and Year 2 after lunch! Some of the photographs from the morning will be available to view on our Facebook page from next week. There were also enough chocolate bunnies (!) to ensure that every member of the school, from Nursery to Year 8 left for the Easter break with a smile on their face.

U11 and U13 IAPS Nationals Hockey
Our senior boys’ hockey sides did us proud at their respective IAPS National Finals this week, with the U13 side travelling to Millfeld on Tuesday and the U11 side heading for Tonbridge on Wednesday. With over 600 Prep Schools eligible for entry, we were delighted to be competing amongst the top 24 schools in the country. Both sides were highly competitive, winning and losing narrowly against some excellent teams, and both progressed through to the plate competition, coming 11th and 14th in the country respectively. Many congratulations all-round – and once again I would like to thank both the staff and parents who drove long distances to support the Dumpton sides.

Maya Meredith
Maya left Dumpton in July 2013 for Clayesmore, and now trains with and plays netball for the TeamBath U19 squad. We were delighted that she found time to visit Dumpton on Tuesday, to take a session with the senior girls. Her passion for the sport shone through as she led the girls through a series of extremely challenging practices. Maya then demonstrated playing in a variety of positions to emphasise the importance of movement, speed, ball handling, interception, vision, passing accuracy and timing. A most enjoyable time was had by all, and we wish Maya every success as her career develops.

Northern Lights
It was a pleasure to welcome our intrepid Iceland party home on a frosty Sunday evening. They were full of their adventures and educational experiences, and we look forward to hearing all about the trip in School Assemblies over the coming term. Thank you to Mrs Sharp, Mr Nye and Mrs Chaffey who led the trip and to the pupils who were a credit to the school.

Year 4 Chocolatiers
The Year 4 pupils had a wonderful time on Tuesday at Hampreston School, being trained by a professional chocolatier. They all learnt how to make a ganache and then hand-filled chocolates before dipping and coating them to make a bag of very impressive gifts for their parents – I hope!

New Sports Hall
We will be demolishing our current Sports Hall next week to make way for the new project. Safety fencing will be erected over Easter and will remain in place throughout. As a result, there will be no parking in the Dumpton lay-by and no access to school through the back gate. We look forward to an exciting new building in time!

A message from Madame Tulodziecki - Summer Club
After Easter, Mme Tulodziecki will be in touch with all those who have signed up for the Summer Club. Please remember to book your place online over the Easter break if you are interested to avoid disappointment – the link is below. A reminder that the dates are Week 1: Mon 9 July – Fri 13 July and Week 2: Mon 16 July – Fri 20 July.

Tennis in the Sun
We wish our squad of tennis players, accompanied by Mrs Cox, Mr Cox and Mr Jeremiah, all the best on their trip to play tennis on the Algarve next week. We hope the sun shines for them throughout.

Sadly, I have to announce that Mrs Jones, stalwart of the Early Years Foundation Stage, will be leaving at Easter, after a long association with Dumpton, both as parent and teaching assistant. We thank her for her considerable contribution over many years and wish her every happiness for the next stage. Later this year, Mrs Sharp will be retiring after 14 years at Dumpton, filling the roles of Head of Science and, latterly, Director of Studies. We will thank her properly on Speech Day, but in the meantime, I am delighted to inform you that Kirsten Rielly, currently Senior Tutor, will be stepping up to be Director of Studies from September 2018.

Summer Term
The Summer Term starts on Monday 16 April 2018 and all children should return in their summer uniform as per recent e-mails. Once again, to stagger the demands on the car park on the first day back, we would be very happy if the Pre-Prep parents dropped off their children a little later at 8.45 am. Of course those with siblings in the Prep School will be welcomed at the usual time.

And finally…
Thank you to Tara Ankers for organising such an enjoyable FoDS Easter Lunch last Friday. Another great success!

With best wishes for the Easter break.

Andrew Browning
