Dear Parents

Happy New Year!
I hope you all had an enjoyable festive season and that your batteries are recharged.  The pupils have certainly returned full of energy and we are looking forward to another busy and productive term.

Carol Service
A big thank you to all the pupils and staff who made the Carol Service such a success.  I would like to make special mention of Mrs Watkiss who, once again, put her heart and soul into the occasion.  Thank you also for contributing so generously to Julia’s House and Wimborne Minster in the retiring collection.

Prep School Hobbies
For those in Years 3 to 8, the hobbies sheet is already being accessed by the pupils here at school to allow us to start next Thursday evening.  The list includes ventures such as Cookery, Animation, Movie Making, Warhammer, Tech Time, Easter Crafts, Life Saving, Golf, LAMDA and building links with a school in India - along with some Academic Extra Time activities, and scholarship sessions for the senior pupils.  We would be grateful if last minute choices or changes could be made by Monday to allow a final list to be published.

News from the Pre-Prep
From next Thursday we will be starting Lunchtime Hobbies for Year 1 and Year 2, including, Art, Hamabeads, ICT, Library Time, Music and Football.  Just to note - if the temperatures dip over the coming weeks you may wish to send your children to school in their tracksuits.

FoDS Football
Just a reminder that all parents are invited to the Friday Night FoDS Football played under floodlights from 6.00 – 7.00 pm.  Please contact jamiehaskins@hotmail.com if you would like to join the mailing list.  All playing standards are welcome – it is designed to be an enjoyable way to end the working week for anyone with a pair of trainers.

Parents’ Evenings
Once again, Prep School Parents’ Evenings will be using an appointments system this term to try to minimise queuing.  This year Mrs Rielly will be overseeing the paper-free online booking system.  Parents will be able to book slots for teachers they would like to meet, on a first come, first served basis.  Year 3, Forms 4C and 4W should have already received a separate e-mail with more information on how to use the system.

Generally, meetings will begin at 4.30 pm, allowing some parents to attend while their children are still at school, making for a neater end to their day.   In some cases, to accommodate all parents, meetings may continue through to 8 pm.   We are able to look after a small number of children in the Green Room after school should you need to bring them.  We begin next Tuesday 15 January with Year 3.

Absence Request Form
Just a reminder to all parents that an on-line ‘Absence Request Form’ is available (on the Parents’ Area of the website) to streamline the process of requesting absence from school.  This allows parents to request planned absence and then lets us respond efficiently, copying information to all parties (Matron, Form Tutor etc) here at school.  We would be grateful if all requests could be made by this route.  Thank you in advance.

FoDS Summer Gala Evening: Message from the FoDS Committee
Tickets will shortly go on sale for the Summer Gala event to be held at Deans Court, Wimborne on Saturday 15 June 2019. The event promises to be well attended as we bid a fond farewell to Mr & Mrs Browning. Look out for further information coming in the next few weeks.

Looking ahead
We have a busy week in store with the Pre-Prep and Year 3 children attending the Life Caravan here at school.  On Thursday, we then have a team at the Dorset Schools’ Cross Country Championships at King’s Park, Bournemouth in the afternoon. Finally, we have a team attending the Bryanston Year 6 Maths Challenge on Friday afternoon. Mock Senior School Scholarship Examinations will soon be upon us in the following week from Monday 21 January to Tuesday  22 January.

With best wishes for the weekend.

Andrew Browning
