Dear Parents

Happy New Year!
I hope you all had an enjoyable festive season and that your batteries are recharged.  The pupils have certainly returned full of energy and we are looking forward to another busy and productive term.

Carol Service
A big thank you to all the pupils and staff who made the Carol Service such a success.  I would like to make special mention of Mrs Watkiss who, once again, put her heart and soul into the occasion.  Thank you also for contributing so generously to Julia’s House and Wimborne Minster in the retiring collection.

Netball Superstar
It was a pleasure to welcome England Netball International and Team Bath Super League star Eboni Beckford-Chambers to Dumpton today.  Eboni led a Prep School Assembly at lunchtime, talking about her career in sport, but also the importance of education, and inspired the pupils with her enthusiasm and delightful personality – a truly inspirational role-model!  She then led training sessions for all girls from Year 3 to Year 8 and is currently coaching the Dumpton staff as I write…

Bryanston Cross Country
Well done to all the runners who enjoyed perfect cross country conditions at Bryanston yesterday. The Year 7 and 8 girls ran in a huge field of nearly 200 runners and finished a very creditable third out of 32 teams. Iris C led them home, finishing 8th, Esther B was next over the line in 12th with team captain Charlotte S in 24th and Amelia C in 30th completing the team. The boys, also in a field of over 100 runners, finished in third place overall, from 21 teams. Oliver S was first for Dumpton finishing 12th with Dom H not far behind in 13th, Tom S 15th and Will S in 30th completing the first four qualifying runners. A special mention also for George G on his 51st place, running two years young. Congratulations also to Iris C on her silver medal at the Dorset County Cross Country Championships before Christmas, and resulting selection for the Dorset team.

Prep School Hobbies
For those in Years 3 to 8 the hobbies sheet has already been accessed by the pupils here at school to allow us to start next Thursday evening.  The list includes ventures such as Cookery, Animation, Movie Making, Warhammer, Junior Science, Easter Crafts, Life Saving, Golf, Mixed Five-a-Side, LAMDA, Bookworm Magazine, Gymnastics, and Growing from Seeds - along with some Academic Extra Time activities, and scholarship sessions for the senior pupils.  We would be grateful if last minute choices or changes could be made by Monday to allow a final list to be published.

News from the Pre-Prep
From next Thursday we will be starting Lunchtime Hobbies for Year 1 and Year 2, including, Art, Hamabeads, ICT, Library Time, Music and Football.  Just to note - if the temperatures dip over the coming weeks you may wish to send your children to school in their tracksuits.

FoDS Football
Just a reminder that all parents are invited to the Friday Night FoDS Football played under floodlights from 6.00 – 7.00 pm.  Please contact Ben.Bayer@dbfoods.co.uk if you would like to join the mailing list.  All playing standards are welcome – it is designed to be an enjoyable way to end the working week for anyone with a pair of trainers.  If the Headmaster is playing you don’t have to worry about whether you are the right standard…

Parents’ Evenings
Once again, Prep School Parents’ Evenings will be using an appointments system this term to try to minimise queuing.  This year Mrs Sharp will again oversee a paper-free online booking system.  Parents will be able to book slots for teachers they would like to meet, on a first come, first served basis.  You should have already received a separate e-mail with more information on how to use the system.   Generally, meetings will begin at 5 pm, allowing some parents to attend while their children are still at school, making for a neater end to their day.   In many cases, to accommodate all parents, meetings will continue through to 8 pm.   We are able to look after a small number of children in the Green Room after school should you need to bring them.  We begin next Tuesday 16 January with Year 3.

Looking ahead
We have a busy week in stall with the Pre-Prep and Year 3 Children attending the Life Caravan here at school, Mock Senior School Scholarship Examinations from Monday to Wednesday.  On Thursday, Year 8 are completing Geography Fieldwork in Wimborne and we then have a team at the Dorset Schools’ Cross Country Championships at King’s Park, Bournemouth in the afternoon.  Finally we have a team attending the Bryanston Year 6 Maths Challenge on Friday afternoon and the U13 boys competing in a Dorset In2 Hockey Tournament at Clayesmore.

With best wishes for the weekend
Andrew Browning
