Dear Parents

At Dumpton, we are here to help pupils fulfil their academic potential of course - but just as important to us is how we help them fulfil their personal potential too. This approach to schooling is known as 'Character Education'. We strongly believe that in an ever changing and ever more complicated world, it is character attributes - not just academic qualifications - that will give children the best chance of finding happiness and success in their futures.

As part of our focus on 'Character Education', Mrs Shaw this week launched a new initiative with our Y7s - The Dumpton Leadership programme. All Y7 pupils are being given the opportunity to choose from a range of areas of responsibility in the school, from mentoring younger children, to supervising the allotments, to being eco-leaders or helping to host visitors to the school on special occasions. Once they have chosen their roles, they will continue these next year where, as Y8s, they will all act as role models to the younger pupils in all sorts of ways, and benefit greatly from the trust and responsibility they are given. Not only do we feel it will be brilliant for their self esteem and confidence - but it may sow the seeds for future leadership opportunities too.

Friends of Dumpton
There was an extremely positive meeting of the FoDS Committee last week. I'd like to thank Jessica Mcardle (Chair) and Ursula Steele-Velasquez (Treasurer) and the whole FoDS Committee for all their efforts over the last 12 months. I'd also like to thank Rachel Wolfenden (Chair), Kate Boxer Missen (Vice-Chair) and Meg Bolton (Treasurer) who will be stepping into positions, but it is also lovely to see so many other parents from year groups across the school keen to help out and be involved. Some exciting plans are afoot, and there is a FoDS Committee meeting next week on Tuesday 17th May at 8.30am - and anyone is welcome! Do email Rachel at fods@dumpton.com if you are interested or have any other questions.

Musical Ducklings
This was a real success on Tuesday - thank you to Mrs Mudd and Mrs Saenger - and we've already heard from a number of other parents keen to attend next week. Do spread the word to those you know with little ones, and get in touch with Juliet to book your place (j.siggers@dumpton.com

Senior Schools Scholarship Evening
I very much enjoyed talking through the Senior School Scholarship process on Tuesday, and with 40 attendees it is clearly an area of interest for many of you.

Cricket and Athletics
Despite a washout on Wednesday, on Tuesday our U8s and U9s managed some cricket against Walhampton, and how wonderful to see the progress the boys and girls are making with their batting, bowling and fielding. In addition, Castle Court joined us for some Y4 athletics this afternoon - it looked like a fantastic time was had by all. Thank you to Mr Randle and his team for all their efforts.

2C and 4C Class Assemblies
Bravo to these two forms for their assemblies this week - including some environmental 'rapping' from 2C, and a brilliant 'Respect' acrostic from 4C - both classes spoke with such confidence and enthusiasm about their chosen topics.

Whole School Photo
We have our whole school photo (the first for 4 years!) on Monday afternoon. Please could we ask for all children to be wearing their smartest uniform on Monday - and please all collectively keep your fingers crossed for dry weather!

Prep School Assessments and Exams
As per Mr Morgan's recent letter, in the coming weeks Y3 to Y6 pupils will undergo some low key class assessments in their lessons. We aim to ensure that the children aren't put under any undue pressure for these, but as they progress through the school they will be exposed to this a little more. Y7 and Y8 pupils sit formal exams after half term, with revision expectations too: staff are already busy helping ensure pupils are well prepared for - we would all recommend - a spell of sustained revision over the half term holidays.

Family Afternoon
Mrs Shaw will be sending out more details about the Family Afternoon and Jubilee Celebration on the afternoon of Friday 27th May. Do try to keep yourselves free for what promises to be a really special afternoon.

Oliver!
A reminder to all parents that the deadline for booking Oliver! tickets is today.

Charity Challenge
Mr Fitzpatrick, a Dumpton parent, is one of 10 doing a 1300km bike ride next week form Sandbanks to St Tropez. They are cycling in aid of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal. If any parents wished to find out more or show their support through a donation, please see the links below. Good luck Mr Fitzpatrick - you can because you think you can!
