Dear Parents

IAPS Nationals
We took a strong team to the IAPS National Swimming Championships at the Olympic Pool on Saturday. Our girls’ relay team of Amelia C, Grace C, Annabel C and Emily K came 7th in the Medley and 16th in the freestyle, and Grace came 8th in the 50m breaststroke and Amelia 12th in the 50m freestyle - all swimming against the best swimmers in 600+ IAPS Prep Schools.  Well done to them all.

International Equestrian
Many congratulations to Henry C (Yr6) who has been selected for the U12s England Equestrian team on his pony Willow. The squad of 6 riders head to Cork for the European Team Championships in July.

Ken Burton
It was an honour to have international music star Ken Burton with us in school on Tuesday. Ken has played to a live audience of 70,000 and a TV audience of 200 million – while we were slightly smaller for our two concerts in the Recital Room, the Year 4 and Year 5 pupils did us proud with their renditions of some gospel classics. Thank you to all the parents and pupils who attended and joined in with the fun.

Junior and Senior Wessex Athletics
Many congratulations to the Prep School children who competed at Senior Wessex and those who have reached the qualifying standard for the IAPS National Championships at Birmingham on Monday 1 July.  At Senior Wessex there are 24 schools taking part, so any top three finish is very impressive.  Those performances marked * reached national qualifying standard.  Very well done to all involved.

This year, medal winners included Morgan B (2nd hurdles*, 2nd long jump, 2nd high jump), Harrison B (1st high jump* – school record, 1st Javelin*), Sam W (1st Shot*), Lawrence A (2nd Shot), Iris C (3rd 300m, 2nd 1500m*), Amelia C (3rd 800m), Annabel C (3rd long jump, 3rd triple jump), Maya D (2nd 200m), Charlotte K (2nd discus*) and Lucy S, Maya D, Annabel C and Dominique H bronze in the 4x100m relay. In addition, we had notable successes at the Dorset County Schools’ Athletics Championship, with Iris C 2nd in the 1500m, and Morgan B 5th in the High Jump.

Meanwhile, Year 3-5 battled hard at the Junior Wessex Athletics last Saturday, again with 24 schools taking part. Medal winners included Chloe W (3rd 200m), Lily R (2nd long jump), Harry R (3rd 75m and 2nd 55m hurdles), Jasper B (3rd 200m), Theo G (1st 200m), Phoenix W (3rd long jump), Indiana W (2nd cricket ball) and Lewis P, Alfie A, Theo G and Oscar O bronze in the 4x100m relay.  There is clearly lots of talent in the junior years too.

Staff and Seniors Summer Serenade – Tuesday 18 June
The Summer Serenade has been a great success over the past years as a showcase for the talents of the senior pupils, along with Mrs Watkiss, Mr Nye, the peripatetic music teachers and some of the less well-known musicians on the staff.  Light refreshments will be provided and the evening will run from 6 pm.  Pupils, parents and staff are all welcome.

Year 2 Environmental Day
Year 2 have really enjoyed their Environmental Day today in the sunshine!  Special thanks to Mr and Mrs Sellers for their Australian themed ‘Sausage Sizzle’ and to local butcher, Paul Keating who supplied the sausages. The children all thought they were delicious!

‘Rock Bottom’
Year 6 have been working hard on their latest production ‘Rock Bottom’, which they are looking forward to sharing, for one night only, on Tuesday (25 June) at 5 pm.  Miss Anson will be writing to Year 6 parents under separate cover.

Plays in a Day:  Message from Miss Anson
As part of their Leavers' Course, Year 8 pupils will be taking part in Drama Workshops on Monday and Tuesday next week, run by visiting director, Kris Huball. After only a few hours of preparation, they will be producing a short performance (max.15-20 mins) for any parents who wish to attend at 4.45 on Monday and Tuesday evening in the Assembly Hall. Group 1 will be performing on Monday and Group 2 on Tuesday.  The children should know which group they are in!

Sports Day – Wednesday 19 June
The sun will soon be reappearing again, we hope, as 220 pupils in the Prep School compete in three events each on the Prep School Sports Day.  Mr Randle is in the process of preparing his biggest spreadsheet of the year accommodating all those taking part.  Please do let Matron know if you are unable to attend matron@dumpton.com as this will simplify his task a little.
