Dear All

Parents will know that we have been busy recruiting recently, and over the coming weeks I will introduce our new appointments. Firstly, I am delighted to announce that Lucy Al-Masri will join us in September as a Reception teacher, after absolutely shining at her recent interview. Lucy studied Ancient History and Latin at the University of Nottingham, before completing her PGCE at the University of Southampton. She then joined Hampreston First in 2012, where, as well as teaching a range of age groups, Lucy soon joined the school's Senior Leadership Team as an Assistant Headteacher. Lucy now has three young children, and is very excited to be joining Dumpton and be leading one of our two Reception classes next year. There will be a chance for pupils and parents to meet Lucy before the end of term. We're all looking forward to welcoming her into the Dumpton family.

LAMDA Examination Centre
My thanks to our three visiting LAMDA teachers, and also Juliet Siggers, who have been overseeing the growth and development of our LAMDA (speech and drama) offering. With around 50 children now having weekly sessions, we're delighted to announce that we have now confirmed our status as a LAMDA Examination Centre. We will be hosting our first set of LAMDA exams at Dumpton on Tuesday 6th July.

School Film: #FlourishingCharacter
Our latest school film was released this week. It aims to capture all the wonderful personal development opportunities at Dumpton, especially focusing on Sport, the Performing Arts and Outdoor Learning. All three provide so much enjoyment, but also have considerable wider benefits for children. We hope you enjoy the film: video-gallery

Food Tech
Another 'extra' at Dumpton is the Food tech kitchen, so ably led by Mrs Brown. I cannot tell you how enticing the smells coming from the food tech kitchen are at the moment, with pupils from Nursery right through to Y8 producing some delicious concoctions. Food tech even went 'al fresco' this week, with Y6 picking herbs from the allotments, lighting the fire in the campsite, and then cooking a risotto over the open fire. Huge thanks to Mrs Brown for all her very good work here.

Guidance Changes with regards to Face Coverings
As guidance eases further on Monday, Y7 and Y8 will no longer need to wear face coverings during lessons.

Reception Pet Show
We are very excited about the Reception Pet Show on Friday. It is always a memorable event, but last year's 'virtual' Pet Show was broadcast on BBC South Today, and I have heard we may well be featured again this year! We have written to Reception parents today with some more specific information about the day. Children, animals and live TV... what could go possibly wrong?

Y8 Assembly
Our wonderful Y8s gave assemblies this week to the rest of the Prep School. As well as some very impressive musical performances, the pupils delivered an outstanding assembly on what it means to be a pupil at Dumpton, and how much they have learnt and grown in their time here. It was a genuinely moving experience to hear them talk so fondly of their memories. We could not ask for a much better set of role models for the younger pupils in the school. Thank you to them, but also the Y8 tutors for their support.

Wih best wishes,
Christian Saenger
