Dear Parents

I hope both you and your children have all settled into the new term, particularly if you are new to the school.  I will try to catch you all at the gate over the coming weeks to allow you to feedback as necessary.

Jo and I wanted to thank you for your many good wishes this week after our news on Monday.  Normal service has now resumed and we are looking forward to another happy and productive year at Dumpton – there will be no letting up!

Future Schools

My ‘Future Schools Presentation’ takes place at 7.30 pm next Thursday 20 September.  Everyone is welcome, but we would be grateful if you would let Lerryn know if you are likely to attend.  At the same time, could I ask you to let me know if there has been any change of plan regarding your decisions post Dumpton, or if your views have crystallised over the last few months.  Please be reassured that anything you write will not be binding!  However, this is particularly important for those in Years 6, 7 and 8 as we set out to tailor preparations for each individual.

Grammar Schools

Preparation lessons for the Bournemouth and Poole Grammar Schools continue this term in prep time.  As I am sure you are already aware, the deadlines for applications for the September tests are now upon us.  Additional information is available on each individual school’s website. The deadline for subsequent applications to local state senior schools (Sept 2019 entry) is 31 October 2018.  I should stress once again that these applications are the responsibility of the parents not the school.

Sports Results

The sporting term got off to a flying start with a long list of fixtures, home and away.  Well done to the 1st VII girls’ hockey team on their exciting 5-5 draw with West Hill Park, and congratulations to the 1st XI boys’ football team on their early season win against Port Regis (3-0).  A big thank you, also, to all the parents for their support, and to both Mr Randle Snr, Mr Randle Jnr and Steph for managing the logistics.  Wednesdays will be as busy as ever in the coming weeks, so to help you plan ahead we will aim to put team sheets on the website by Monday evening at the latest.  However, please check the website on match days for any last minute changes.

Sporting stars!

Congratulations to Henry C and Grace F on their exploits over the summer. Henry represented England in the Mounted Games European U12 Championships in France this summer, winning a Gold medal. He also competed in Denmark this Summer in the World Pairs Championships in the Under 12's where he took Bronze.  Meanwhile, Grace competed at the British Sprint Orienteering Championships at Bath University coming 2nd overall.  Both outstanding achievements – very well done.

Jeans for Genes

There will be a voluntary Jeans for Genes Mufti Day next Friday (21 September) with a £1 donation, as usual.  This will extend to children throughout the Prep School, Pre-Prep and Nursery. Thank you, in advance, for your support.

FoDs Quiz Night

Please see the official Quiz Night flyer attached for – Saturday 6 October. This is a school wide event with teams from the staff and parents from all levels in the school.  If you book your places, you can turn up and join a team on the night or plan a team in advance if you would rather.  Either way it is a very sociable occasion!

Individual and Sibling Photographs

Fraser Portraits will be in school to take photographs of each child on Thursday 20 September.  They will also take sibling photographs. If you would prefer not to have a sibling photograph taken, please just let us know j.jeremiah@dumpton.com

Swimming Squads

The pool will be open on both Monday and Tuesday lunchtimes for those pupils that would like to do some extra length style swimming sessions.  The Monday session is designed for those pupils in Years 3, 4 and 5 whilst Tuesday is for Years 6, 7 and 8.  If however we have a small number turning up on one of the days others may be able to join in.  Please contact c.jeremiah@dumpton.com if you have any queries.

Autumn Stroll

We hope that the Friends of Dumpton Stroll this Sunday (16 September) will be blessed by fine weather.  The FoDs Committee are expecting a healthy group of walkers (and dogs)! Thank you in advance for all of the preparations that have gone into this.  We look forward to seeing many of you in the Parents’ Car Park at 2.30 pm on Sunday, the weather looks hopeful, so the more the merrier….

With best wishes
