Dear Parents

Children in Need

A big well done to everyone involved in the Children in Need celebration yesterday and today.

Huge thanks should go to Dumpton parent Sam Dean and her team of parent helpers, who took on the recycled toy stall and were kept very busy throughout.   This year the Year 8 pupils also stepped in with a range of stalls, and Year 7 pupils baked cakes in the Food Tech Department for the Cake Sale. Thank you also to parents for providing the 50p, 20p and 10p pieces and more that fuelled the process. The overall total raised on the day was around £700, not including the Mufti Day collection today.  This is an amazing effort from everyone involved, parents, pupils and staff alike.

Mrs Dean and her team have now raised nearly £5000 with their stall over the years.  Some items have been sold many times over!

IAPS Nationals

The 1st VII hockey girls travelled to Millfield for the IAPS Nationals this week.  Unfortunately, they were on the wrong side of some very close games, but were competitive throughout - that they lost narrowly to the eventual winners in their group is a measure of the level of competition at these events.  They are a talented group and have many more exciting times ahead.

Music Concerts

Thank you to all those who supported the Singers’ Recital earlier today.  We enjoyed a range of vocal styles, with a mixture of solos and ensembles, supported by singing teachers Mrs Willcock, Mr Anstee and Director of Music, Mrs Watkiss – an excellent team effort all-round.

We now look forward to the Year 2 Instrumental Concert and both Prep School Senior and Junior Concerts. Please note that there has been a change of timings for the latter – apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Year 2 Instrumental Concert 2.30 pm Thursday 29 November 2018

Senior Gala Concert (Years 6-8) 4.30 pm Friday 30 November 2018

Junior Gala Concert (Years 4-5) 4.30 pm Tuesday 4 December 2018

Primary Mathematics Challenge

Congratulations to all the Year 5 and 6 pupils who received certificates after the recent Primary Mathematics Challenge. Well done to Grace F, Zoe H, James L, Toby L, Patrick R and Joe S who won Gold Awards.

News from the Pre-Prep

All pupils in the Pre-Prep are now busily preparing for a range of Christmas productions and we would like to thank parents in advance for all the wonderful costumes that we are already hearing about.  Thank you also to the Year 1 Parents who attended the Coffee Morning earlier today.  It was good to catch up.

FoDS Christmas Party:  Message from FoDS

Last call for the FoDS Christmas party at Harbour Heights on Saturday 1 December.  Any last minute Year Group Christmas gatherings can still be accommodated - do please invite your friends as it is always a good night!  Please email fods@dumpton.com with any last minute requests by Thursday 22 November.

Year 7 and Year 8 examinations

These begin at 8.30 am on Monday (19 November) morning and run through to Wednesday (21 November) lunchtime.  Games will run as usual on Monday and Tuesday afternoon and matches on Wednesday afternoon will not be affected.

And finally …. important information for parents

Lloyds Banking Group have detected an escalation of criminal gangs hacking into school email accounts nationally and targeting parents of children attending UK independent schools.  Parents are being approached by an email, which appears to have originated from the school. Payment instructions for school fees are provided, often offering discounts for prompt payment. Please always verify an email payment request directly with the school and be alert to unexpected fee requests. Please do not attempt to verify the instruction by replying to the email or by making contact with a phone number included in the email.  Please do not rely on the fact that the school email address appears to be correct.

Yours sincerely

Andrew Browning
