Dear Parents

I wanted to thank all the parents who took the time to fill in our Parent Survey. It was most useful to get so many insights on all the things you value so much about Dumpton, as well as a strong sense of areas that we might look to improve. Myself and my Senior team have already used this feedback to inform some key decision-making, and more importantly, the trends and themes have fed into my own wide-ranging review of Dumpton and played an important role in forming a strategic plan for the journey ahead. I would like to invite any interested parents to Dumpton on Tuesday 10 March at 7.30pm. There will be drinks and nibbles, a chance to explore the new Sports Hall, and then I will present on the journey ahead for Dumpton. I do hope to see many of you there.

Netball and Hockey
Despite the inclement weather, there were some superb performances this week from our Netball and Hockey Teams. It was particularly exciting to see the Sports Hall host its first official Netball match, with the Y5 girls really impressing against Talbot Heath. I joined a good number of parents in watching from the viewing gallery: comfortably the warmest and driest spot for spectating!

Cricket Club
Our After School Cricket Club had a huge amount of interest in both the Pre-Prep and the Prep School and we are very sorry for anyone who missed out. We will be writing home with more details early next week: a reminder that the first session begins on Monday 27 January.

Cross Country
Well done to Mr Loe and our Senior Cross Country Runners who competed at Kings Park yesterday.   Outstanding results were Anaïs V finishing 48th on her debut, Max H and Cam C came home in 20th and 21st respectively while Felicity C and Wynne R finished in 54th and 59th.

Senior Schools
It is a very busy time for our older pupils, many of whom are visiting different Senior Schools for assessment days, interviews, taster days or scholarship days at schools such as Canford, Talbot Heath, Sherborne Boys, and Bryanston. We wish all of them the best of luck. I know many parents will be looking ahead and beginning to plan the route for your own child - I would reiterate my invite to come and speak to me at some point as part of that process where I hope I can offer some child-centred advice and support with planning those important next steps.

Bursar Search
Parents will be pleased to know that we had over 50 applicants for the role of Bursar at Dumpton. We will be interviewing over the next couple of weeks - it goes without saying that I am delighted with the calibre of candidates who have applied.

Prep School Parents’ Evenings
The first evening ran very smoothly and was a great success. We hope that the next evening (5S) on Thursday 23 January continues in the same vein.  Children will be supervised in the Green Room (next door to the Recital Room) after the end of school on Parents’ Evenings if required.  If you would like any further information, please do contact Mrs Rielly at k.rielly@dumpton.com.

News from the Pre-Prep
Reception were amazed to discover a fairy door at Forest School this morning! The wet weather had made the woods very muddy with 16 centimetres of rain collected in our rain gauges, we were not surprised!

Easter Holiday Club
Mrs Tulodziecki is looking into the feasibility of running an Easter Club this year. This would run for the first week of the Easter holiday (Monday 23 March to Friday 27 March).  The sessions would be open to pupils from Year 1 to Year 8 and would include an exciting mix of arts and crafts, cooking and team games. Mrs Tulodziecki would like to gauge parental interest before making a final decision.

Without wishing to tempt fate…
With all the bad weather in recent weeks, we are keen to be ready for all eventualities.  Can we please ask that you update the school with any changes to your mobile telephone number or preferred email address.  Updates can be telephoned through to the School Office or emailed to j.jeremiah@dumpton.com.  Thank you in advance.

Year 6 Bryanston Mathematics Challenge
Congratulations to Hector C, Theo G, Xander J and Joe K for participating in the Bryanston Maths Challenge today.  This included problem solving, and a Countdown style number challenge. They had an enjoyable afternoon competing against 25 other schools and all received certificates, which will be presented in Assembly in due course.

With best wishes
Christian Saenger
