Dear Parents

Prep School Parents’ Evenings
Thank you for your swift response to the Parents’ Evenings appointments system.  The first evening ran very smoothly and was a great success. We hope that the next evening (Forms 4C and 4W Parents) on Tuesday 22 January continues in the same vein.

Children will be supervised in the Green Room (next door to the Recital Room) after the end of school on Parents’ Evenings if required.  If you would like any further information, please do contact Mrs Rielly at k.rielly@dumpton.com.

Year 6 Bryanston Mathematics Challenge
Congratulations to James L, Toby L, Alexander B and Joe S for participating in the  Bryanston Maths Challenge today.  This included problem solving, and a Countdown style number challenge. They all had an enjoyable afternoon competing against 25 other schools.

Sports Roundup
Well done to all the teams who participated on the first sporting Wednesday of term.  They were rewarded with some very encouraging performances, amongst the 26 fixtures that took place this week.  Well done to the U11 boys who won the plate at the Sherborne Hockey Tournament - good luck to them now as they head for King’s, Bruton on Friday (25 January) for their regional IAPS tournament.

Dorset Schools Cross Country Championships
Mr Loe writes: The first race of the Cross Country season took place at Kings Park in almost perfect running conditions. Blue skies, no wind and firm ground meant the runners could really speed round the course. As usual, all of our team supported each other at all times and behaved impeccably, being a credit to themselves and our school.  Everyone from the more experienced to the first timers ran their hardest and managed some very commendable finishing positions in three huge fields of approximately 150 runners.  Special mention must go to Iris C, running in the Year 8 and 9 category who looked like she was in cruise control to finish 3rd and therefore qualify for the Dorset Schools Cross Country team and represent them at the South West County Championships in February.

News from the Pre-Prep
Year 2 have made a great start to their new topic this term. Their journey around the World has begun with Australia with map work and even their own aboriginal artwork. They have also had a wonderful time today reading the story Possum Magic and enjoying a pavlova and lamingtons lovingly made by Mrs Sellers.  The children enjoyed them very much and wanted to say thank you!

Weekly Drama Sessions at Bryanston School
Bryanston School are running weekly Drama sessions on Saturday mornings, for children aged 8-12.  They start tomorrow on Saturday 19 January, 11:15-12:15pm.  If interested, please contact Hannah Waters, Drama Resident at hmw@bryanston.co.uk  and see the flyer attached.

Without wishing to tempt fate…
We have yet to suffer snow this year but are still keen to be ready for all eventualities and it may be crucial for us to contact you all immediately.  Can we please ask that you update the school with any changes to your mobile telephone number or preferred email address.  Updates can be telephoned through to the School Office or emailed to j.jeremiah@dumpton.com.  Thank you in advance.

With best wishes
Andrew Browning
