Headmasters Newsletter, Friday 18 June 2021

Dear Parents

Thank you for all your words of support and understanding this week. It has meant a lot after having to make some very difficult decisions about the end of term. The school has been a hive of activity this week, and it is testament to the staff at school that so much is going on at present despite everything. I hope my newsletter today will capture some of the highlights.

Y8 Leavers
I am delighted to announce that all Year 8s have now received their Common Entrance results and have had their places at their Senior Schools confirmed. We are immensely proud of this cohort. They have worked so hard and are such role models. It is a delight to see them enjoying their Leavers' Programme so far, with a morning of watersports at the Watersports Academy, a triathlon, the feed yourself challenge, Dumpton CSI, and Task Master all highlights of this week. In the torrential rain this morning, they also went on a cycling expedition - something we call in the business a bit of 'type 2 fun'! We wish them all the best for their residential in the Purbecks next week.

Reception and Nursery Sports Day
I just want to say a huge well done to every child involved in this event. It was wonderful to see the effort and determination, but also the enjoyment on show. The 'you can because you think you can' spirit is alive and well with our youngest pupils. A particular thank you needs to go to all the staff involved. I know a huge amount of work goes on behind the scenes to make the occasion such a special one for both children and parents.

Performance Assembly
The school was struck by a powercut last night which knocked out our Wi-fi first thing, we were so sorry that Y2's performance broadcast was affected by the slightly patchy 3G connection on my mobile phone! We have now put a recording on the parents' area of the website and we hope to find another opportunity for Y2 to perform - it was a genuinely moving performance, and such a fitting message about kindness and friendship from Y2, who demonstrates this in spades. James B also wowed us with his piano performance, well done to him.

Poetry Recitation
The heats of the Poetry Recitation were hotly contested this week, and a final selection has been made for the Finals on Tuesday. Well done though to all Y3 to Y6 pupils for committing to learning a poem off by heart and then reciting it to an audience. A wonderful thing to do.

The Last Two Weeks
With more reports of schools affected in our local area by outbreaks, I am grateful to all Dumpton families for exercising caution at the moment, and being particularly vigilant about Covid symptoms, Lateral Flow Testing, and social distancing. We all hope we can finish the last two weeks of the year on a real high.

With best wishes

Christian Saenger
