Dear Parents

Dumpton Parliament
Today I welcomed the thirteen school MPs to the Meeting Room at lunchtime to discuss the year ahead.  The children came up with some impressive ideas and questions, and we will look to respond to as many of them as possible over the coming terms.

Remembrance Day at Dumpton
This is always a special day in our calendar, as we meet around the War Memorial in the centre of the school at 11 am, this year on Friday 9 November. Pupils will play the Last Post and Reveille – parents of musicians are welcome to support, of course.

FoDS Christmas Party – Saturday 1 December @ The Harbour Heights Hotel
The tables for the Christmas Party are now taking shape.  If you would like to snap up any of the remaining places, please put envelopes with guest names and a cheque made payable to ‘Friends of Dumpton School’, in the FoDS box in the front office please by 9 November.

Dumpton Music
We enjoyed a delightful Music Assembly yesterday, with five of Mrs Dando’s violinists playing beautifully at the start of the day.  The string players now look forward to a Prep Schools' String Players Workshop at Canford next Tuesday (6 November), with a concert in the afternoon from 5.30 pm.  Mrs Watkiss has written separately to the parents of the children involved.

Planning ahead, we have three Friday concerts in November, starting with the Singers’ Recital from 4.30 pm on Friday 16 November, the Junior Gala Concert (Yr4-5) from 4.30 pm on Friday 23 November and the Senior Gala Concert (Yr6-8) from 4.30 pm on Friday 30 November.  Parents are welcome, as ever, at any or all of these concerts.

News from the Sportsfield
Well done again to all the pupils for some committed performances on Tuesday and Wednesday on the rugby pitch, with every available boy in the school involved.  Thank you also to all the parents for their support.  The U13 girls’ hockey side has been busy preparing for their forthcoming IAPS Tournaments next week – good luck to them on Monday.

News from the Pre-Prep

Year 1 pupils are looking forward to their trip to Beaulieu next Tuesday (6 November).  All the children are enjoying preparations for their Christmas productions – remember to save the date!

Children in Need
On Thursday 15 November, we have the annual Children in Need celebration – unfortunately, with the Sports Hall out of action, we will not be able to enjoy the usual jamboree.  However, parents will still be running the Second Hand Toy Sale in the Recital Room from 3 pm that day – other attractions may also crystallise over the coming days.   The following day will be a Mufti Day to raise funds for this worthwhile cause.

Toy Story
Once again we are very grateful for the number of toys donated this year for Children in Need.  Dumpton parent, Sam Dean is continuing to do a sterling job of sorting numerous bags of toys.  Thank you very much for your offerings so far.  Any last minute contributions will be welcome right up to the morning of the sale.  Last call also for donkeys, shepherds, angels and any other Christmas production costumes or indeed any other fancy dress items which can be traded on the day...

Shoebox Appeal
Thank you to those who have supported the Rotary Shoebox appeal so far. We have a sizeable pyramid of brightly wrapped shoeboxes in the Front Hall and would very much like to add to this before the final collection on Wednesday 14 November.

Second-Hand Clothes Shop
The Second-Hand Clothes shop is currently bulging at the seams!  So, for the time being, we cannot take any more bags of clothes unless it is Kukri sports kit which is always in demand.

With best wishes
Andrew Browning
