Dear Parents

FODs Quiz Night
Thank you very much for supporting the FoDS Quiz Night in such high numbers – we had some very competitive teams and the usual friendly competition.  Well done to the winning team, which included two members of staff this year!  Thank you also to Mr and Mrs Nye for their support on the night.  A big thank you also, as ever, to all those on the FoDs Committee, and to all those who have stepped forward for the coming year.

Christmas Party - Friday 2 December
We have a few spaces remaining for this event at the Harbour Heights Hotel, Poole.  If you would like to join us please drop a booking form into the Front Office and contact fods@dumpton.com

Informal Concert
A big well done to the 30 or so musicians who entertained us so royally with 25 pieces today.  We enjoyed a range of instruments and genres, and some memorable performances.  We have also had many performers facing audiences of 250+ in School assemblies on Thursdays this term – well done to them all.  Thanks as ever must go to Mrs Watkiss and her team of peripatetic music teachers too.

News from the EYFS
Thank you to Mrs Dosanj for coming into Reception to help us celebrate Diwali.  She shared the story of Rama and Sita and the children chalked Rangoli patterns, threaded paper and pasta flower garlands and made Diwali cards.

Children in Need
Thank you for your continuing contributions to the annual Second Hand Toy Sale.  Boxes and bags are still arriving daily, ready for a big stall on Thursday 16 November.  We are grateful once again to Sam Dean and her team for all their hard work in organising, pricing and supervising on the day.  Do please keep the toys (large or small) coming.  Sam is also very keen to receive fancy dress items or outfits for the upcoming Christmas productions which might be gratefully received by Pre-Prep parents!

Prep School Hobbies
We will be starting new hobbies after half-term, and the new choices will soon be available for selection on the Parents' Area of the website.  A range of indoor options are already planned, such as Warhammer, Funtime Science, Christmas Crafts, Cookery, Handball, Movie-making, Life Saving and various craft activities, but there will also be the option of outdoor sport for the more hardy amongst us.

Wednesday Sport
There was another busy afternoon of football and hockey on Wednesday with lots of competitive matches.  Among the many successes through the school, I would just like to say well done to the U13 and U12 rugby sides who impressed in their 35-15 and 30-15 wins over Chafyn Grove on Wednesday.  The U13A and U12A girls’ hockey sides were also very pleased with their performances in their 10-1 and 6-1 wins over Castle Court.

Riding, Orienteering & Skiing…
Congratulations to Henry C who continues to ride at a high level for the South of England UI2 team, competing in the British and World Championships this year.  In addition, Grace F recently came second in the British Sprint Orienteering Championships at Milton Keynes, having spent much of the summer competing up and down the country.  I am also delighted to announce that Tom W has been selected for the English Schools’ Ski Association Primary Squad – very well done to all.

News from the Year 3 team
The Year 3 pupils had a lovely day at Cranborne Ancient Technology Centre last week.  This is already featuring on the weekly Year 3 blog, which can be found at www.dumpton.com/Y3Blog  We notice that the number of ‘hits’ has decreased of late, so we thought it worth readvertising!  Thank you for your support for the Parents’ Meeting (English and Maths) yesterday evening.

Rotary Shoebox Appeal
Pupils have been introduced to the idea of sending a Christmas Shoebox to a child who otherwise would receive little.  Information leaflets have already been sent home with the children.  Filled boxes will be collected soon after the half term break.  Thank you to those who have already started the pile in the Front Hall.

And finally…
If anyone finds themselves in Paris over half term two of our pupils, Daisy D and Esther P will be performing with their Dance School at Disneyland so do come along and support if you can!

With best wishes for the half-term break

Yours sincerely
Andrew Browning
