Headmaster's Newsletter, Friday 23 November

| 23 November 2018

Dear Parents

New Head
It gives me great pleasure to announce that the governors have appointed Christian Saenger to take over as Headmaster from September 2019.

Christian has had a glittering career in teaching to date, and we are delighted that this will be continuing at Dumpton from next year.  He is currently Deputy Head (Academic) at York House School in Hertfordshire where he fills many roles with great success.  On arrival at Dumpton he will live in the main house with his wife Hattie and their young daughter.  Hattie grew up in a prep school environment in Devon, and now works in the HR Department of The Hall School, Hampstead.

We are all looking forward to welcoming Christian and Hattie to the Dumpton community. We will be arranging a number of days for them to visit and meet as many staff, parents and pupils as possible.

Pre-Prep Music
We are also looking forward to a Year 2 Concert next Thursday (29 November) at 2.30 pm in the Recital Room. This is an opportunity for Mrs Bolter, our Head of Pre-Prep Music, to showcase some of the instrumental talents that the Year 2 pupils have been developing.  Mrs Dando will be marshalling her violinists and Mr Palmer will be directing his cellists – while Mrs Bolter conducts her very own clarinettists. This is an addition to the online calendar.

Prep School Music
Another reminder that the Senior Gala Concert will be at 4.30 pm on Friday 30 November and the Junior Gala Concert will be at 4.30pm on Tuesday 4 December.  We are anticipating a very full programme for both so will start promptly in an attempt to finish before the buses depart.

Wednesday Sport
Well done again to all the sports teams who represented the school this week. It was a very busy afternoon, with lots of pupils both at home and around the county - could I thank all pupils and parents who braved some dreadful weather, mostly with smiles on their faces!

There were lots of close and exciting matches on the day, with special mention to the U13A girls’ hockey team who were just edged out in the County Hockey Finals by national runners-up, Sherborne Prep.

FoDS Christmas Party – last call
Just a few days left to book for the FoDS Christmas Party at Harbour Heights, on Saturday 1 December from 7 pm.  Please put cheques in the FoDS box by Monday 26 November (absolute last call) if you would like to join the fun.

End of Term Arrangements
Mr Nye will write to you separately next week, outlining arrangements for the last day of term including the seating plan for the Carol Service.  There are still three weeks to go, but it is good to plan ahead!

Year 7 and Year 8 Examinations
Teachers in the Prep School are currently in the middle of marking examinations and writing reports. We hope to send examination results home on Friday 30 November.  Queries about these or any other academic matters should go straight to the Director of Studies, Mrs Rielly (k.rielly@dumpton.com) in the meantime.

Flu vaccinations (Reception to Year 5)
Matron has asked me to remind those parents who have not already done so to return the flu vaccination consent form by Thursday 29 November.  She stressed that she needs the form returned to her even if you do not want your child to receive the vaccination in December.  Many thanks.

Best wishes
Andrew Browning

PS Thank you to everyone who contributed to the amazing £1008, raised for Children in Need last week.
