Dear Parents

Sports Days
The Prep School Sports Day on Wednesday afternoon was a time to feel very proud of our school, and particularly our pupils. We are only sorry that we couldn't have you there with us. We talk a lot at Dumpton about our school values of being kind (‘treat others as you would like to be treated’), and aiming high (‘you can because you think you can’). Sports day was an example of our pupils really and truly living those values. The atmosphere was so very supportive and encouraging, the children's attitude's exemplary, and the effort, determination and resilience on show was superb. Mr Randle was extremely proud I know, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank him - and indeed all the staff - for organising and running this fantastic event. DE Photos were onsite on Wednesday afternoon to capture all the excitement of the day. Please go to dephoto.biz to view and order your copies. There are photos available from a few years ago too so if you would like a nostalgic look back and add to your collection, do please have a look through.

Today it was the turn of Y1 and Y2. What a promising bunch they are, with some brilliant close races and big smiles all round. A big thank you to Madame Curson for her support for Pre-Prep PE all year.

Reception, Y1 and Y2 Concerts
It was a real pleasure to watch the concerts this week, with parents in attendance too in the Arts Courtyard. Thank you to Mrs Bolter for all her work with Pre-Prep; developing that love for music and singing from an early age is so important.

Camps
The Y8s enjoyed a brilliant camp in the Purbecks early this week, followed by Y5 over the last couple of days. Wild camping in big bell tents, all the pupils took part in coasteering, paddleboarding, kayaking, bushcraft and survival skills, as well as a visit to Dorset Water Park. What an amazing end to the year, and a superb experience for all. A huge thank you to all the staff who attended, and Mr Cox for his energy in organising these trips. They all deserve to put their feet up this weekend!

Year 6 Watersports Trip
I have just had reports back from the staff that took Y6 to Sandbanks Beach today – what a beautiful day for it! Y6 were absolutely brilliant and have all had a fantastic time in the water. Thanks again to the staff for taking good care of them today.

Book Sale
Miss Anson has been having a bit of a classroom tidy up and has a lot of good quality, quite recently published reading books (mostly for ages 10-13) that she no longer has shelf space for (and neither does the library!) Therefore, she is running a table-top book sale in her classroom on Monday and Tuesday lunchtimes next week for any children who might be interested. Books will cost 50p each and all proceeds will go to one of the charities Dumpton supports.

Staff Announcements
Further to the interviews held last week for the role of Senior Deputy Head, I am delighted to announce two appointments. Firstly, Hilary Shaw will take over from Richard Nye as Senior Deputy Head in January 2022. She is the mother of Sebby in Y2, and with her husband an Old Dumptonian and now Head of Chemistry at Canford, Hilary already knows the school very well indeed. Her passion for Dumpton, and her determination to cherish and build upon our existing values shone through. Hilary read Psychology at Cambridge University before training as a Science teacher, and she has some superb leadership experience, especially in her current role as Assistant Head Co-Curricular at King Edward VI Southampton.

I am also delighted to announce that Gary Ashworth has been appointed as Head of Juniors. This is a new role in our management structure that will see Mr Ashworth oversee the pastoral care of all the pupils in Y3, Y4 and Y5, leading the tutor team and taking responsibility for the happiness and wellbeing of all the pupils in that younger section of the Prep School. Mr Ashworth is held in high regard by pupils, parents and staff alike, and we are all delighted that he will take on this important role in the school's management team. I am sure you will all join me in congratulating both Gary and Hilary on their appointments.

Year Group Photos
Further to the email and attached proof card sent out earlier in the week, this is just a quick reminder that the deadline for ordering year group photos is midnight on Sunday. This will ensure that the photographs are delivered to school next week and then sent home with the children before the end of term.

Drama Performances – Tuesday 29 June
We are pleased to announce that on Tuesday there will be two drama workshop performances live streamed from school. We will send the appropriate link closer to the time.

11.30am - Y5 Drama workshop performance
2.30pm - Y7 Drama workshop performance – Act 1 of ‘The Pirates of the Curry Bean’.

Music Performances – Thursday 1 July
We are very excited that the following performances will take place on Thursday with a pupil audience present and live streamed to parents. We will again send the appropriate link closer to the time.

11.30am – Vocal Recital
2.30pm – Instrumental Concert

House Swimming
All pupils in the Prep School will be taking part in the House Swimming Gala on Wednesday (30 June) afternoon. Just a reminder that kit bags can go home on Tuesday evening but that pupils will all need their swimming costumes and towels for one more day.

The End of Term Arrangements
The Prep School day will end at 4.15/4.30 on Thursday, as there will be no Prep. However, minibuses will run as usual, and all pupils will be supervised until 5.45 if need be. Please do remember to make any changes on the bus booking system.

A reminder of the updated Prize Giving timings for Friday, correcting an error in the original communication:

Pre-Prep - 08.30
Y3/Y4 - 09.30
Y5/6 - 10.30
Y7/8 - 11.30

I hope to see you all at Prize Giving and wish you a very enjoyable summer.

With best wishes,
Christian Saenger
