Dear Parents

Pre-Prep and IAPS National Athletics
Well done to all the Year 1 and 2 children for competing with such good spirit at the Sports Day today.  Thank you to all the parents for their support.  For those who were unable to buy a photograph on the day, pictures will be available on the DE Photo website. Good luck now to the Dumpton athletes heading for the IAPS Nationals at Birmingham early next Monday morning. Fingers crossed for them all.

Rock Bottom
Well done to Year 6, Miss Anson and Mr Nye for their romp through the Year 6 play on Tuesday evening.  It was great fun, as usual, with a wonderful mix of acting, singing and memorable punch lines.  Thank you to all the parents and friends who added to the occasion by laughing at the right moments!

House Swimming
All pupils in the Prep School will be taking part in the House Swimming Gala on Wednesday (3 July) afternoon. Just a reminder that kit bags can go home on Tuesday evening but that pupils will all need their swimming costumes and towels for one more day. Unfortunately, with 200+ children and 20+ staff in the swimming enclosure, there will not be room for spectators on Wednesday.

FoDS End of Year Picnic on Thursday 4 July
This will start from 3.30 pm for the Pre-Prep and 4.15 pm for the Prep School until 7.00 pm. Please bring your own picnic and drinks. However, there will also be food to buy from various outlets.  There will be disco music in the marquee, glitter tattoos, face painting, a giant inflatable slide, laser quest and Jamie Jigsaw.  Can we stress again that children should be accompanied by their parents at this event, as it is very much a family affair.

Speech Day on Friday 5 July
I hope to see you all on Speech Day, which starts promptly at 10 am on Friday 5 July.  Here I will take the chance to thank some highly-valued members of staff who will be leaving this term, including Mrs Browning, Mrs Welch, Mrs Gatward, Mrs Randle, Mrs Browne (from the Maths Dept), Miss Laws and the team of loyal Student Teaching Assistants.

Following the proceedings, we will be offering Pimms or sparkling water outside the Marquee and will be unveiling the new Sports Hall.  Hopefully, everyone will get a chance to look inside on the day.  I will certainly aim to say farewell and good luck to each pupil and parent.  If I do miss you on this busiest of days, can I take this opportunity to pass on my best wishes for a long, hot summer wherever you are, and every success for the future.

Form and Class Lists
New Prep School Form Lists and Pre-Prep Class Lists will be published in September, allowing us to make adjustments for any unforeseen changes in class lists over the summer months. These will be sent out by email before the start of the Autumn Term.

Second-Hand Uniform
On Wednesday 3 July there will be a Sale of Second-Hand Uniform from 3.00 pm – 5.00 pm.  If you have any bags of second-hand uniform, please give them in as soon as possible, so that we can include them in the sale. The shop will be closed for sorting on Monday.

Next term
We start again in earnest at 8.30 am on Wednesday 4 September.  As usual, please do park up as directed on the first day and head for your son or daughter’s new form/classroom to meet their Form or Class Teacher.

And finally …
Fourteen years ago I sent a letter home to all Dumpton parents on the first Friday of the Autumn Term 2005.  I have missed one Friday since, due to heavy snow, but now close my 475th and final end of week letter.  I just wanted to thank you all for reading my ramblings – a small number of families have received every single one!

I hope to see you all on Speech Day and I hope our paths cross again at some point soon.

With best wishes for an enjoyable summer.

Yours sincerely
Andrew Browning
