Dear Parents

Community is an essential part of any school, and you as parents play such a key role in forming ours here at Dumpton. We know how important it is that you have the opportunities to spend time with one another, to build connections and networks with other parents, and hopefully to provide opportunities for long lasting and special friendships that may live on long after your children leave Dumpton. We also know how important it is that you feel connected to us here at school, spending time with us on site and having the chance to see the school in action and, hopefully, watch your children flourish in front of your eyes. Unavoidably, some of this has been harder in the last two years - but as you will have seen from the calendar, we've tried to provide lots of opportunities this term for parents to connect with the school and one another. We've also got some exciting ideas planned for further strengthening our sense of community here at Dumpton.

Coffee Morning and FoDS Meeting - Tuesday at 8.30am
We hope as many of you as possible, in the spirit of community, will pop in for a coffee in the Dining Room on Tuesday morning after you drop your children off. All are welcome! Following this there will also be an opportunity for anyone interested in being a part of the Friends of Dumpton Committee, or just finding out more about it, to stay behind for a short meeting to discuss the future of FoDS. Mrs Shaw and I have a few ideas to share, and we also want to have the chance to talk through future events and any new positions on the committee. The Friends of Dumpton are such a crucial cog in the Dumpton community - and we really hope lots of you will be keen to stay to hear a little more and perhaps play your part moving forwards.

Summer Term Events - From Mrs Shaw
We hope all parents have checked the school calendar for the upcoming term. We did want to draw your attention to three key events:

The Dumpton Family Afternoon on Friday 27th May replaces our previous 'Open Afternoon', but will be a very similar event which will see the Dumpton community invited to school to see a whole host of activities, performances, displays and sporting competitions involving both the Pre-Prep and Prep School. We hope lots of parents - and maybe even grandparents? - will be keen to come along. We will be combining this year's event with a chance to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee.

The Prep School Sports Day on Wednesday 29th June, the first for three years, will be an all day event beginning at 10am and finishing at 4pm. We know it is an event that Prep School parents love to come and watch, and we will be encouraging parents to bring a picnic and enjoy what is sure to be a really special event.

Prize-Giving will take place on Friday 8th July for all pupils in the Pre-Prep and Prep School. We will begin with drinks on the front lawn for parents at 9.30am whilst children head to their classrooms. The ceremony will be held in the Sports Hall from 10am, including performances, speeches and awards, and will be followed by the FoDS picnic where the whole community will be able to celebrate the end of the school year together on the school grounds.

A Message from Mr Smith
We're all incredibly proud of Mr Smith who completed his 24 Hour Charity Challenge over the Easter Holidays - in the end, completing 100 miles dribbling a football. Mr Smith wanted to give his sincere thanks for all the support he received, especially those that have generously donated or bought tickets in the raffle organised by some Y6 parents.  He would also add my specific thanks to those Y6 parents who organised and ran the raffles on Friday and Saturday, especially Kay Swanborough. The Year 6 parents organised events / raffle raised £685. In total, Mr Smith has raised £8,600, which he is absolutely delighted with and has far exceeded his targets and expectations.

Musical Ducklings Baby/Toddler Group
Mrs Saenger is re-launching Ducklings this term - our baby/toddler group for children aged 0-2 years old. This will be based over in the Recital Room, with Mrs Mudd joining to lead a lovely session of music and singing. We're really excited about Ducklings returning - do mention to others you know who may be interested, and contact Juliet Siggers (j.siggers@dumpton.com) if you are interested in attending. The first session will be on Wednesday 11th May from 8.30am to 10am.

Ducklings Hatching
Talking of ducklings, we've now had 15 ducklings successfully hatch from their eggs in the Science Laboratory! They are rather extraordinarily cute, and I know children from Nursery up to Year 8 have enjoyed getting to know them already. Many of them will go on to live with us in the allotments - how lucky for us all to have such lovely creatures living with us on site.

Prep School Assessments and Exams
Mr Morgan wrote to all Prep School parents yesterday outlining the assessments and exams held this term. Do look out for this useful overview, and please contact Mr Morgan if you have any questions.

Future Schools
Year 5 parents should also have today received a letter from Mr Morgan about the Future Schools process, as well as a guide to the ISEB Pre-Test. A reminder that if any parent ever wishes to discuss Future School options, that meetings are available with me, and I usually encourage parents to come for an initial chat when their child is in Year 4 or Year 5.

Y6 Skern Lodge
Year 6 head to Skern Lodge next week for three nights on their Summer Residential - we hope they all have a brilliant time in beautiful North Devon!

Oliver! - From Mrs Mudd
All members of the cast should be 'off book' for songs and lines now, but if they aren't there yet, that must happen as soon as possible so as to keep the rehearsals flowing. (The script and song tracks are available via teams). We will be collecting costumes in the week beginning 9th May. Please refer to the letter sent in the Easter holidays regarding what is needed and send in via your children in a named bag. We are not expecting Y6 pupils at rehearsal next Friday as they they will have just returned from Skern Lodge. We will be sending out more details regarding tickets for this highly anticipated event soon. Please do bear in mind that spaces will be limited and unfortunately due to licensing restrictions we will not be able to broadcast or film the shows. Please contact Mrs Mudd if you have any queries.

Musical Instruments - From Mrs Mudd
Learning an instrument and playing or singing in ensembles offers a host of benefits to our children's learning and character education as well as the opportunity to perform throughout the school year.  We have a team of fantastic teaching musicians at Dumpton and we welcome enquiries for individual instrumental and vocal lessons throughout the year. If you would like to apply for lessons please complete the form here: https://forms.gle/KnZfWCx2oW7amTay8 or email Mrs Mudd with any questions.

Girls Football Opportunity - From Mr Randle
We have attached a flyer from Longfleet Football Club who are launching football sessions for girls aged 5-14. We know how many girls at Dumpton are enjoying their football and hope these sessions might be of interest to some of you.

Wishing you all a lovely Bank Holiday weekend.
