Dear Parents

Remembrance Day
After a very informative assembly from 7P on Tuesday, Year 8 pupils led our Remembrance Day Service today at 10.45 am. The Senior Choir sang a beautiful anthem in assembly and we then observed two minutes’ silence at 11 am, when pupils in the Prep School and the Pre-Prep placed wreaths of poppies by the War Memorial.  Anthony L (Yr8) played the Last Post and Reveille – a very moving experience for all.

Scholarship success
Many congratulations to our Year 8 pupils, Iris C, Alana F and Morgan B, who have all been awarded All Rounder Scholarships to Millfield for September 2019 in recognition of their range of sporting talents.  Exciting times!

Music @ Dumpton
Well done to the pupils who made such a positive impression at the Canford Strings Day this week.  We now look forward to the Singers’ Recital in the Recital Room on Friday (16 November) at 1.30 pm. Please note the change of time.

News from the Pre-Prep
Year 1 had a lovely time at Beaulieu this week, dressing as Victorians for their day in Beaulieu Palace.  Just a reminder that there will be a Year 1 Parents’ Coffee Morning from 10.30 am next Friday (16 November).  Looking further ahead there will also be a Year 2 Instrumental Concert on Thursday 29 November at 2.30pm in the Recital Room.

Maths and Pre-Tests
Two more dates to be aware of – there will be the Primary Mathematics Challenge for Year 5 and 6 pupils next Monday (12 November).   This will be followed by the Canford and Bryanston Pre-Tests at 8.30 am on Thursday (15 November).

U13 Girls IAPS National Hockey
The senior girls’ hockey team travelled to Millfield on Monday, for the South-West U13 IAPS Hockey Championships.  The girls battled hard against some very strong opposition, recording some impressive results. They had some exciting wins on the way through to the final, which they lost narrowly, but qualified for the IAPS National Finals nonetheless.  These take place next Tuesday (13 November). Very well done to everyone involved, and a big thank you to parents for travelling such a long way to support.

Other Sporting News
There were some encouraging results elsewhere on the sports field this week, with Steph feeding 200+ children and 100+ parents here at Dumpton alone. Well done also to the U11 girls’ hockey team and U11 boys’ rugby team who were both mentioned in dispatches from their tournaments at Bryanston and Canford respectively.

Rotarian Shoeboxes
Thank you, once again, to everyone who has so far contributed to this initiative.  There is an impressive pile of boxes in the Front Hall that will soon be winging their way to orphanages in distant lands.  They will be collected next Wednesday (14 November) so there is still time for last minute additions.  Thank you in advance.

Children in Need
This has been scaled down this year, due to the construction of the new Sports Hall.  Nonetheless, Dumpton mum Sam Dean has spent countless hours sorting and pricing toys for the Second Hand Toy Sale, which will take place on Thursday (15 November) in the Recital Room from 3 pm.  We hope that many of the Pre-Prep Parents (and children) will be able to come over and find lots of exciting bargains for Christmas and beyond.

There will be some fun side attractions, manned by Year 8 pupils, alongside, including cakes, I am told.  We will also encourage Prep School children to attend during Hobby Time on Thursday evening.  The stalls will remain open through to 5.30 pm.  Thank you in advance for your contributions to the children’s stalls, and also for any 50p, 20p and 10p coins which drive the process.  There will also be a Mufti Day on Friday (16 November) to raise funds for this worthwhile cause.

FoDS Christmas Party
There are just a few tables left for this fun evening on Saturday (1 December) at the Harbour Heights Hotel.  Last minute bookings can still be taken at the Front Desk but the absolute deadline is Monday morning…

Early Mornings in the Prep School…
Just a reminder that doors to the main Prep School teaching block open at 8.00am.  If children arrive at school before this time, please direct them to the Dining Hall where we will keep them warm until teachers arrive in their classrooms.

Yours sincerely
