Dear Parents

Snow and Ice
We are sending our end of week letter slightly earlier this week, to give you an update on the travel arrangements for the next two days.

The forecast for snow at 6 pm (Thursday) remains in place so we will stay with the plan to end the Prep School day at 4.15 pm today.  If you are collecting earlier than this from the Prep School please check out with Matron.  The After School Club in the Pre-Prep will also finish at 4.15pm.

With the possibility of snow overnight, we will keep you informed by text/email regarding plans for Friday morning.  Please keep checking for updates.  Our main concern, as ever, is the well-being of pupils, parents, and staff so please do not travel unless you feel it is safe to do so.

News from the Pre-Prep
Year 2 had a wonderful Monday celebrating Australia Day.  In the morning, we learnt about the history of Australia Day, writing some interesting facts and making our own plate for the party in the afternoon. We made fairy bread and vegemite sandwiches and Mrs Sellers again surpassed herself supplying us with traditional Aussie Meat Pies and various sweets and cakes.  The children enjoyed trying all the wonderful food that was prepared.  There are some super photographs of our celebrations on the school Facebook page. Thank you again Mrs Sellers!

Next week...Chinese New Year celebrations and World Food Day on Friday 8 February with Mrs Brown.  What lucky children!   We have a Nursery Parents’ Coffee Morning also on Friday 8 February.  Planning further ahead the Year 1 and 2 Parents’ Evening takes place on Thursday (14 February).  We have already written to parents under separate cover – please follow the online link to book your appointment slot if you have not already done so.

This also seems a good time to advertise our FoDS Easter Egg Hunt, which will include hot cross buns and coffee for all the Nursery parents on the last day of term (Friday 29 March).  Please put the date in your diary.

IAPS Regional Hockey
Many congratulations to the U11 boys who battled through to top their group at the Regional IAPS Hockey Tournament at King’s School, Bruton, beating Clayesmore Prep and Lambrook along the way. They lost narrowly 1-0 to Durlston Court in the quarterfinals, but played some great hockey and should be proud of their achievements.

Year 4A Parents’ Evening
Thank you again for your positive response to the Year 8 Scholars Parents’ Evening this week. The Year 4A evening now follows next week on Tuesday 5 February. A big thank you should go to Mrs Rielly again for her faultless organisation.

Looking ahead it will be Year 5’s turn on Tuesday 12 February.  Parents are being invited sequentially for their respective evenings as the term proceeds.  Just a quick reminder to use the link to the online booking system.

Sports Roundup
Well done to the senior girls’ netball teams who won convincingly against Port Regis on Wednesday.  Congratulations also to the U10 girls who won the Canford Netball Tournament, with an exciting 4-3 win in the final against Highfield after impressive victories against Stroud (5-2), Chafyn Grove (10-3) and Castle Court (9-1).  There were also encouraging results right through the school, down to the U8 boys and U8 girls who had great fun on the astro and netball court respectively!

Best wishes
Andrew Browning
