Dear Parents

Open Day
This week’s letter will concentrate mainly on the Open Afternoon scheduled for next Friday (26 May).  The start time is staggered to avoid gridlock in the Colehill area.  For the Prep School, Open Afternoon starts at 2pm, the Year 2 parents are expected at 2.30pm and for Year 1, Reception and the Nursery parents, the start time is 3pm.  This will hopefully give everyone the opportunity to walk around the school informally with their children, enjoying the displays and meeting the staff.  Parking will be on all spaces available so please look out for signs.

Please complete the proforma (which is being sent as an attachment with this letter) to let us know whether you are coming to Open Afternoon and, if not, who will be collecting, and taking your child home.  Hard copies of the proforma will be sent home with the children on Monday.

The 1st XI v Fathers’ Cricket Match begins at 2.00pm across the road and the 1st IX v Mothers’ Rounders Match at 2.15pm on the lower field.  Thank you to the parents who have organised these teams.  The Parent and Child Tennis Tournament will also be taking place and booking for this is via an online form which will be available on the Parents’ Area of the website.  This will go live on Monday morning (22 May) and places will be allocated strictly on a first come, first served basis.  Finally there will be a Dumpton Tea served from 4pm on the front lawn.  Children may depart from 4.15pm.  I should remind everyone that school buses will not be running that evening (as stated in the Programme of Events).

While we are crossing our fingers for sunshine on Open Afternoon, in the event of wet weather, please still come to the school to look at the children’s displays and, above all, eat the tea – Steph’s cakes must not go to waste!  The only change to the plan above will be no cricket, rounders or tennis, then tea at 3.30pm in the Dining Hall/Recital Room and departure from 4pm.

We were treated to a delightful Music Assembly on Thursday morning, with six flautists giving us a lovely start to our day.  This was followed by an impressive Informal Lunchtime Concert today in the Recital Room.  Thank you to all the pupils who are queueing up to perform, and to all the parents who support such occasions.

Pre-Prep News
The Reception Pet Show took place this afternoon, with a nervous Headmaster, judging various categories such as behaviour and personality, trying not to upset the children (or the parents)!  Meanwhile, Year 2 pupils were enjoying their Environmental Day around the allotments, campsite, woodlands and ponds of Dumpton.

Tennis Champions!
Many congratulations to the two junior (U9) tennis teams who attended the Talbot Heath Tennis Competition on Monday this week.  Unusually, two teams from the same school came first and second – well done Dumpton!

Prep School News
Year 4 had a delightful time in the New Forest on Tuesday, visiting an ancient Verderes’ Court and gaining a real insight into how this beautiful National Park on our doorstep is managed.  Meanwhile, Year 3 pupils attended a ‘Farm to Fork’ morning at a local supermarket, discovering all the different countries that our food comes from.

From the Chair of FODS
Last-minute bookings are still being taken for the FoDS Big Top Ball this week. It is still not too late to reserve your place on a table – the more the merrier! An email will go out next week to all the revellers regarding arrangements. A reminder to all attending the ball that the drinks pre-order form needs to be returned by Monday 5 June – there is a copy attached should you need it.

Headmaster’s Breakfast
Thank you to all the year group reps who attended a second Headmaster’s Breakfast earlier this week.  It was another positive meeting, and we will be publishing minutes on the Parents’ area of the School Website before half term.

Year 2 Swimmers
We now look forward to watching our stars of the future at the Year 2 Swimming Gala next Monday (22 May). Thank you in advance to Mrs Hudson for her energy and enthusiasm for this annual event.

Strictly Dumpton
And finally – we are delighted to announce that Old Dumptonian, Ore Oduba, will be visiting the school next Friday morning (26 May).  He will speak to the pupils in School Assembly about life in the media as a TV presenter and sports journalist, and have a tour of his old school.

Yours sincerely
Andrew Browning
