Dear Parents

FoDS Summer Ball
Thank you to all the parents and friends who supported the Big Top Ball on Saturday night.  It was a very memorable evening, full of fun and good cheer.  It was made possible by the drive and attention to detail of the FoDS Committee, led by Sarah Schiel, and including Mel Haskell, Anna Gregory, Jessica Mcardle, Sam Adams, Leanne James, Lee Turner, Licia Accorsi, Helen Ffoulkes-Jones and Sue Watkins – a tremendous team effort, much appreciated by all the revellers…

Ken Burton
It was an honour to have international music star Ken Burton with us in school on Tuesday. Ken has played to a live audience of 70,000 and a TV audience of 200 million – while we were nearer 60-80 for each of our two concerts in the Recital Room, the Year 4 and Year 5 pupils did us proud with their renditions of some gospel classics. Thank you to all the parents and pupils who attended and joined in with the fun.

Sporting International
Many congratulations to Charlie C (Year 8) who has been selected from a pool of players from England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland to represent the United Kingdom Lions Hockey Squad.  He will join the 24-man squad in July 2017 to play international matches, including a planned tour to Sardinia.

Junior and Senior Wessex Athletics
Many congratulations to the Prep School children who have broken all records for the number of Dumpton pupils qualifying for the IAPS National Championships at Birmingham on Tuesday 4 July.  This is the premier event of the term, with 24 schools taking part, so any top three finish is very impressive.  There were a total of 15 athletes and 19 performances (marked *) reaching national qualifying standard.  Very well done to all involved.

This year, medal winners included Will S (2nd, 100m*), Josh S (2nd, 300m*, 1st, 800m*), Dominic H (2nd, 800m*), Morgan B (2nd, hurdles*, 2nd, long jump*), Will B (1st, hurdles*, 2nd shot*), Henry W (3rd, shot), Angus W (2nd discus), Oscar S (3rd, javelin), Karesha OT (3rd, 100m), Alicia H (200m, 2nd*), Heidi T (2nd, 300m*, 2nd, triple jump*, 3rd ,800m), Maya D (2nd, 800m*), Iris C (3rd, 1500m), Alexandra S (2nd, hurdles*), Tae S (1st, long jump*), Bella H (1st, long jump*), Holly P (2nd, high jump*) and Daisy B (2nd, shot*).  In addition, both boys (Henry S, Josh S, Angus W, Will B) and girls (Bella H, Heidi T, Alicia H and Karesha OT) Year 8 senior 4 x 100m relay teams came first, both with National qualifying times.

Meanwhile, Year 3-5 battled hard at the Junior Wessex Athletics meeting last Saturday, with medal winners including Harrison B (hurdles, 3rd), Theo G (200m, 1st), Lawrence AH (high jump, 3rd) and George G (200m, 3rd).  Well done.

We are looking forward to the Year 1 and Year 2 Summer Concerts on Thursday (22 June) from 2.30 pm, followed by refreshments in the Green Room.  We are then keeping our fingers crossed for a warm, dry afternoon for the Nursery and Reception Sports Day on Friday (23 June) from 2.15 pm.  Please could parents ensure that all children have a cap or sun hat in school.

Staff and Seniors Summer Serenade – Tuesday 20 June
The Summer Serenade has been a great success over the past years as a showcase for the talents of the senior pupils, along with Mrs Watkiss, Mr Nye, the peripatetic music teachers and some of the less well-known musicians on the staff.  Light refreshments will be provided and the evening will run from 6 pm.  Pupils, parents and staff are all welcome.

The Amazing Adventures of Superstan
Year 6 have been working hard on their latest production, which they are looking forward to sharing, for one night only, next Friday (23 June) at 5 pm.  Miss Anson has written to Year 6 parents under separate cover.  Everyone is welcome but places will be limited, so please let us know if you would like to come.

Sports Day – Wednesday 21 June
Another sunny day will soon be with us, we hope, as 220 pupils in the Prep School compete in three events each on the Prep School Sports Day.  Mr Randle is in the process of preparing his biggest spreadsheet of the year accommodating all those taking part.  Please do let Matron know if you are unable to attend matron@dumpton.com as this will simplify his task a little.

And finally…
Dumpton parent Peter O’Kane is currently cycling the length of Sri Lanka in aid of a cardiac children's charity.  The main risk locally is being chased by wild elephants!  He would be spurred on by any donations to the chosen charity http://www.cardiaccyclelanka.com/

Yours sincerely
