23 June 2017

Dear Parents

Common Entrance Results
Congratulations to all the Year 8 pupils who have worked so hard for their entrance exams to senior school.  They have all been successful in winning a place at their chosen school.  Excellent news for all!  As a result, from this cohort, we will have 34 pupils heading to 11 different schools, including 1 to Ballard, 6 to Bryanston, 1 to BCS, 12 to Canford, 1 to Charterhouse, 4 to Clayesmore, 3 to Millfield, 1 to Sherborne, 3 to Talbot Heath, 1 to Taunton and 1 to Thomas Hardye.  Very well done.

Staff and Seniors Serenade
Thank you to all staff and pupils who contributed to such an enjoyable concert on Tuesday, particularly the peripatetic music teachers Neil Sissons, Christopher Edwards, Sarah Bolter and Maurice Albin, who played so beautifully.  Thank you also to Sue Watkiss who organised such an impressive programme.  It was an extremely pleasant evening with some outstanding and very memorable virtuoso performances. Thank you also to the parents and pupils for their generous applause on the night.

U12 County Cricket Champions
Congratulations to the Year 7 boys who beat Sherborne Prep in the final of the U12 County Cup on Tuesday.  Particular mention should be made of Monty H (103ret) and Ollie B (65*) who put on 170 for the first wicket, before Monty took 5 for 6 to bowl out the opposition. A very good morning’s work!

Swimming stars
Very well done to members of the Year 5/6 Swimming squad who competed so well at the Canford Gala earlier in the week.  Everyone swam with real commitment, with the girls’ team coming 1st overall and the boys’ team 4th.  This included first places for Toby M (50m freestyle), Grace C (50m breaststroke), Iris C (100m IM) and the girls’ 4x25m freestyle relay team of Grace, Iris, Lauren F and Georgina H.  A special mention for Georgina, swimming a year young, who also won the 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke – it is no surprise that she has been awarded a Sport (and Academic) Scholarship to pursue her swimming at Millfield next year.

Prep School Sports Day
I would like to thank all the staff, pupils and parents involved in the annual Prep School Sports Day on Wednesday. Mr Randle et al produced an outstanding afternoon, with 220 competitors all taking part in at least three events and everything running perfectly to time.

News from the Pre-Prep
Similarly, I was really impressed by the spirit of the children in the Nursery and Reception Sports Day today - there were smiles in every race! We also enjoyed  a very pleasant Summer Concert from Year 1 and Year 2 pupils yesterday. Thank you to Mrs Bowerman and the Year 1 and 2 staff for their organisation and to the pupils for their lovely singing and performance from the Pre-Prep Philharmonic!

Looking ahead
Below are a few details of events to come in the last week of term to allow you to plan well ahead.

Dance Extravaganza – Thursday 6 July
This will take place outside by the marquee from 4.00 pm and will involve most of the pupils in the Pre-Prep and Prep School.  All parents welcome of course.  (A separate letter for arrangements for the Pre-Prep and older Nursery children will be sent shortly by e-mail) This will run into the ….

… End of Year Picnic – Thursday 6 July
All are welcome at this event.  Start time is 5.00 pm.  Please bring your own picnic to enjoy a lovely family occasion.  FoDS will circulate a flyer to all parents next week with further details.  This year the Dorset Larder, who provided catering at the Christmas Fayre, are going to be selling food.   As this is a family occasion it is requested that all children be accompanied by parents if they are attending.  Finish time 8.00 pm.  All pupils can wear home clothes during the day to save them changing out of school uniform later.  Pupils not attending will be supervised until 5.45 pm and school buses will then run as normal. If your child will not be on the bus please let Matron know –   matron@dumpton.com

Lessons for the Prep School will end on Thursday 6 July.  Reports will be distributed by email at the end of term.  The Nursery and Pre-Prep classes will finish for the term at 3.30 pm on Thursday 6 July but After School Club will run as usual.  There will be no lessons on Friday 7 July.

Speech Day – Friday 7 July
There are no school buses.  Prize Giving starts at 10.00 am for all children from Reception through to Year 8 and their families. Car parking will be signposted.  Children should come to school with their parents in time for Prize Giving and should sit with them. Dress code for Prep School: long-trousers, ties and blazers for boys; Pre-Prep: Normal school uniform.  Leavers and their parents are invited to drinks on the Headmaster’s Lawn from 12 noon.

Yours sincerely

Andrew Browning
