Headmaster's Letter 23rd June 2023

Dear Parents

As this newsletter shows, there is an incredible range of experiences and opportunities for the pupils here at Dumpton – but for all the exciting co-curricular activities and character education on offer, pupils’ academic progress remains a core priority for us as a school.

Following the completion of the Progress Tests in Maths and English, I am really proud to announce that, for the third year running, pupils’ progress in English and Maths has improved against national standards.  Now, over half of Dumpton pupils are sitting in the top 25% nationally in English and Maths. We also received a record 9 academic awards/scholarships to Senior Schools this year, the most in the school's history. It is all a sign that the quality of our curriculum and teaching, as well as the positive culture and behaviour at the school, is helping to secure the very best outcomes for our pupils. A big thank you to the staff who work so hard in the classrooms to make this happen, and a big well done to our pupils for being such fantastic learners!

Nursery and Reception Sports Day
What superstars the children were on Monday – many staff have commented that we have rarely seen the children perform with such confidence and a sense of enjoyment. A huge thank you to all parents who supported the event, as well as the staff who worked such magic to prepare the children so well.

Y3 and Y4 Camp Outs
There was a little more noise on the lower field last night than usual, with Y4 spending a night under the stars. Today they had a day of bushcraft in the woods, cooking their own lunch from scratch with potatoes dug out of the allotments, and fish that they had to gut, clean, stuff with herbs and cook themselves! Y3 step up this evening for their first ever Dumpton campout. We wish them the best of luck! Thanks to Mr Cox, Mrs Skinner, Mr Harris, Mrs Ramm, Mrs Brass and Mrs Williams for putting on such a super experience for the children.

Y8 in Cornwall
Y8 are returning this afternoon from a fantastic sunny week in Cornwall. The pupils have enjoyed surfing sessions at Sennen Cove and a barbeque on the beach. They have explored Tate St Ives, the Porthcurno Telegraph Museum and the Eden Project. They were also lucky enough to watch a performance at the wonderful cliffside open-air Minack Theatre. My thanks to Mr Loe and the staff team for accompanying them and ensuring that such a good time was had by all.

Nursery to Y2 Summer Performance – Monday 26th June
We’re really excited to welcome Pre-Prep and Nursery parents to this concert on Monday. It is sure to be an absolute delight. A reminder that drinks will be served from 3pm on the front lawn.

Prep Sports Day – Wednesday 28th June - a few reminders from Mr Randle:

  • Children should arrive in sports kit so all athletics kit will come home on Tuesday.

  • Events start promptly at 10am. Please find another link to the programme for the day here

  • Parking will be on the top field by the Sports Hall - there will be marshals to direct you.

  • It might not be the best day for dogs to be on site, but if you do need to bring your dog along, please ensure they are on the lead, and that any mess is carefully removed.

  • If the weather forecast suggests it won't be viable to run we'll try and make a decision before the day. School will take place as normal if we need to postpone.

  • All unaccompanied pupils will be based by the Pavillion under the blue gazebos and Mrs Shaw will be signing them in and out.

Please also read the lovely match reports from the this week’s fixtures: Week 10 Match Reports
