Headmaster's Letter 24th February 2023

Dear Parents,

“I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast the stone across the waters to create many ripples”

This quote from Mother Teresa is a brilliant example of why ‘Global Citizenship’ has become one of the 7 virtues of The Dumpton Way. We want our pupils to realise that they can all play an active part in making the world a better place. It is, of course, their world more than it is ours. And whatever issues may lay in the future for this generation of children we know there will be some challenges – it is so important that they are armed with the knowledge, the skills and the attitude to make a tangible difference as outward thinking, compassionate and proactive citizens of our planet. The more ‘global citizens’ inhabit the future, the better the chance of that future being a bright one for us all...

A week today we hold our first ever whole school ‘Global Citizenship’ at Dumpton. Thank you to Mrs Cox for her passionate work in this area, and to all the staff involved in what is sure to be an exciting and fulfilling day on Friday. We can’t wait to see what the next generation of global citizens achieve.

Next week, and the following weeks in fact until the end of term, are particularly busy – a reminder to check the calendar and keep an eye on email communications carefully for the rest of term.

Book Week

We’re excited to celebrate all things reading next week, with visiting authors, book fairs, performances, competitions, and much more. Do see Mrs Parker’s email on the 2nd February for full details, and we do hope all the children are inspired as ever to ensure that books and reading continue to play a big part of their lives.

Spring Spectacular (Monday 6th March)

It’s not long until the Spring Spectacular, and Mrs Mudd wrote to all families today with information about this exciting day. The plan is for every single child at Dumpton to sing, dance or act that afternoon; what a brilliant idea. I’m so grateful to the Performing Arts team for their dedication – and their ambition.

Sports Scholarship Success

I am delighted to announce two more scholars for this year: Seni P and Harry R in Year 8 have been awarded Sports Scholarships to Bryanston and Canford respectively. Both areoutstanding athletes (indeed, both are current National Athletic Champions!), and we’re delighted they have achieved these prestigious awards.

Y2 Netball and Hockey – Spring House Cup Tuesday 21st March

I am delighted that for the first time ever we have ‘U7’ sports fixtures on the calendar! As a result of their efforts in Games lessons with Mr Grogan, we have decided how to give children (and parents) an experience of a ‘match day’ at Dumpton by putting on some hockey and netball matches. Mr Randle will write to Y2 parents early next week with more information.

Exams for Y7 and Y8

On Monday to Thursday next week pupils at the top end of the school will be sitting exams. We wish them all the best for this process – a great chance to consolidate their learning and get used to the exam environment. We wish them the best of luck. Thank you to Mr Morgan and Mrs Lockwood for their organisation here.

Dumpton Friends Quiz Night at The Olive Branch, Wimborne
A big thank you to Dumpton Friends for organising the Quiz Night which takes place next Thursday (2nd March) and looks set to be a fun evening - please see Classlist for more details.
