Headmaster's Letter 30th June 2023

Dear Parents

This week we were fortunate to have not one, but two Sports Days – events which I think always reflect the very best of Dumpton.

What a special day the Prep School Sports Day on Wednesday was. Thank you to all those parents who supported the day so well. We really hope you enjoyed - as much as we did - seeing the amazing efforts of the children, their camaraderie, and their positive and enthusiastic support for one another. I want to make special mention to Mr Randle for his wonderful organisation of the event, and all those other many staff who support him so well. It is truly appreciated.  DE Photos were in attendance and a selection of photographs are now available to view and purchase online https://dephoto.biz/dashboard?eventcode=randle#/events/

Not to be outdone, it was Y1 and Y2's turn today. They were superb! Despite the weather not being quite as lovely as it has been, the children were brilliantly enthusiastic and determined in their efforts. Seeing so many smiling faces, but also some genuinely exciting athletic potential, was just lovely to behold. An enormous thank you to Madame Curson for her tireless organisation, and the whole Pre-Prep team for their support. We even snuck in a parents’ egg and spoon race at the end, to the children’s delight!

Move Up Morning
As we look ahead to the next academic year, on Wednesday, children will spend part of the morning meeting with their new form teacher, as well as welcoming any new pupils due to join the school. We hope it will be a lovely morning for all concerned and that children will come home very excited about the year ahead. Wewill communicate this important information about next year’s classes with you via emailon the day.

Dumpton Friends Newsletter
The Dumpton Friends team have produced a superb newsletter which they shared on Classlist earlier this week. For those who missed it, I have attached it again.

Speech Day - Friday 7 July
We are looking forward to seeing everyone a week today for Speech Day and the Dumpton Friends Picnic. Car parking will be across the road – there will be marshals on hand to direct you. Should you have any access requirements please email Lerryn so thatwe can ensure arrangements are in place for you. Just a reminder that full details may be found in my email of 22nd June titled ‘Speech Day’.

Reception Trip to Hengitsbury Head– from Miss Monaghan
Oh we do like to be beside the seaside……a wonderful, informative day was enjoyed by all!

The children in their first session learnt all about different sea creatures, identifying shells, egg cases and nurdles followed by a scavenger hunt. The second session taught the children about coastal erosion, they even built their own model sea defences! Impeccable behaviour was displayed as always, we can’t believe we only have one more week together……

More Maths Success - from Mr Smith
Well done to Kitty McG, Alexander S and Josh DLH for tackling the UKMT Junior Kangaroo (bonus round) on the 14 June.  The results are in, and Josh has been awarded a Merit for his score, which is only awarded to the top 25% of children who attempt the Junior Kangaroo, so special congratulations to Josh.

Year 8 Movie Making– From Mrs Mudd
Today we have been lucky enough to spend the day Movie-making with the Year 8s. This school-based activity day has been the culmination of their hard work in script writing, producing and planning which took place in the first half of term. They have been shooting, editing and sound tracking their short films ready for a grand premiere this afternoon with popcorn and drinks. We will upload the finished films to Teams for all to enjoy afterwards.

Performing Arts Holiday Club – from Mrs Mudd, Mrs Warde & Miss Sophie
Mrs Mudd and her Performing Arts team are delighted to be offering a Performing Arts Holiday Club towards the end of the summer holidays. It would be open to all current Prep School pupils on Tuesday 29 - Thursday 31 August inclusive. Pupils would attend all 3 days, enjoying sessions in music, dance and drama from our specialist team and would be working towards a performance on the final afternoon.

Each day will run between 9am-4.30pm (final day performance will commence at 4pm). Pupils will need a packed lunch, break time snack and a full water bottle. Sun cream and hats are also advised. The cost of the three day course will be £120 per pupil.

Due to the nature of the subject and the necessary planning, we would need to secure numbers before the end of term. If your child/children would like to join us for what will be a fantastic three days, please complete this form so that we can send details for payment with further information by Friday 7th July.

If you have more than one child, please complete the form for each child.
